Thanks for the thoughtful and thorough review of the book HB. I'll be at his reading tomorrow night, and look forward to getting a copy of the book in my hands.

Good review HB, my copy arrived the other day and I have been chipping away at the book, I generally don't get a lot of time to sit and read. That being said I have enjoyed what I have read so far and agree with you about the differences growing up here vs the US. By the sounds of it this was never meant to be the big rock star bio, but rather an illustration of his work ethic, creativity and drive, evidenced all throughout his life, maybe as an answer to those who a few years ago were blaming him for the lack of a new TOOL album.

In any case I am enjoying the book. Cheers....
Be good to each other.

Thanks for the good review.

And May Jay did say in an interview recently that he'd prefer to go more into Tool stuff in a book worked on by all 4 (5?) of them.

Yep, I hope that happens. I feel like there is a lot more to be told, not just Tool but also APC and to a lesser extent Puscifer. The book is about Maynard the man, not Maynard the rockstar, which is something people need to bear in mind when reading.

I was at the L.A. event tonight and can confirm the above. The response to the question definitely suggested that new music is being worked on, although no clear indication that the upcoming tour announcement would be in support of a new album. I think it's quite possible though.

As for the event itself, Billy Howerdel co-moderated with Dino(?), and over-all it felt like a friendly conversation between the three of them...perhaps a bit more measured and cautious with an audience present, but genuine none the less.

I'd tempered my expectations on what to expect from the event tonight, based on a few comments I'd read about earlier shows, so perhaps I went in a bit more ground...but I thought it was worth the price of admission (book included).

I was also expecting occasional outbursts from the audience, but everyone was quite respectful...with one exception. A guy stood up in the audience mid-Q&A, seemingly unaware of the pre-selected question process, tried to ask/yell his own question, and was met with boos and threats from the audience and stage. A bit uncomfortable.

Reviving this long dormant thread... Watching the Philly '92 concert for the thousandth time. God, wish we could get even half of the MJK from that show on the new album and tour.

Maynard and his wife, Jennifer, were on Drinky Fun Time podcast today. This is the second time MJK was on the podcast; the last time was months ago. I'm pretty sure they recorded then both at the same time and they just didn't post it until the APC release. No news or anything, they just drink some Arizona Moscow Mules.

Will there ever be another APC album? “Um, no,” is his reply. “Maybe, someday, a song on a soundtrack. But an album? No.”

yes, and it also provides some interesting insisghts regarding his then-current perspective with post-10kdyas-tool

It’s not that he’s ungrateful for what Tool’s success has brought him, but he’s tired of being the poet laureate of the arrested-development set. If the music has been so inspirational to his fans, he says, then “what the fuck have you done with it that you need me to keep doing it?”

- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

I don't recall him having legal issues in Japan. Google comes up dry as well.
