i'm sure it will be some kind of cumbersome package that doesn't fit nicely in my cd shelf. i noticed my lateralus plastic sleeve is ripping at one of the corners... great.

I was looking at the next release from Oresund Space Collective and they are putting out what seems to be an interesting collaboration with Cyber-Rabbit. It would be cool if TooL did something like this.

https://oresundspacecollective.bandcamp ... m/kybalion

This album is a unique collaboration with www.cyberrabbit.co.uk in the UK. It will be a multimedia experience where you will be able to enter into the ØSC world with music and visuals in a totally new and unique way by using the great potential of emerging Mixed Reality technologies in creating a Cyberdelic experience.

The artwork itself will be interactive through the use of augmented, mixed and virtual reality technologies. This album context engineers the traditional way of interacting with the album. Our audience is invited to go onto a Space journey that is waiting you to discover inside the artwork. You will be able to turn your mobile device into a space ship by using it with a virtual reality cardboard!

Download the app here:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyberraabbit.oscc

Through altering their perception by the Mixed Reality Cyberdelic experience, the audience becomes an alchemist and open portals into the world of Kybalion through the album art. The album comes with 6 different highly detailed paintings that combines the esoteric symbolism with cosmic imagery, each one contains different portals into the world of Kybalion. From choosing the songs through interactive Emerald Tablets of Thoth that becomes portals... more

I was just thinking about this , Lateralus is my favorite album cover/design of all time so i’m sure they will come up with something good , i hope it’s not over the top though .
I also hope they change their familiar music video format to something different , at this point i don’t mind seeing them playing their instruments.
But most importantly i hope they can release the album title soon so we can have fun with it a bit to kill time till the release date . Unfortunately i don’t think they have an album title yet unless it’s a song title .

Well, the album title has been a song title on all their other albums (unless you're splitting hairs on Aenima/Aenema)

Just another example of how lazy they are, can't even be bothered coming up with an actual album title.

Hmmmmm. Let’s hope not, but I wouldn’t be too surprised.

I was amused looking back at the first page of this thread.

Cheese, are you lurking? Poop, TOOL, etc.... What’s up with all the old usual suspects from 5 years ago?

When the new shit is officially announced, this place will blow up again.

i think this time the release will be on compact disc(sacd, cd, whatever), dvd (bluray whatever), online market (both buy and stream, and with back catalogue), and vinyl at the same time, as optional packages (different combinations of these formats mentioned above)

Why would it have a DVD/Blu-Ray release?

DVDs/Blu-rays have higher storage capacity so you higher resolution audio files on them. I just bought Larks' Tongue in Aspic and it came with a bonus DVD that had a super high def copy of the album on it, amongst other things.

but keep in mind that "high resolution audio" sounds partly inferior to CD quality (which is already totally badass, there is just a lot of people who don't believe this to be true), so does 5.1 audio for music. stereo 16bit 44.1khz audio is totally fine, i would be rather surprised if they went for some "audiophile" release. trent reznor did so with hesitation marks (he additionally offered a higher coded flac version of the album)

I hope they make the new album and their catalog available for streaming services already , for their sake .
Personally i don’t stream music but if Tool finally agree to this they will gain alot of new fans .

Lateralus was released in HDCD which I doubt made any real difference.

Given all the Adi Granov stuff, there's been speculation about an accompanying comic right? Someone just made a graphic novel of a script Salvador Dali (looking at you, Kittan) wrote for the Marx Brothers, and it has an accompanying soundtrack. Could imagine something like that, minus the Vaudville double the Surreal.
Ahhh, Infotainment!
