Not sure if it's a combination of old age and the fact that there have been few if any decent new releases lately...but I found myself really enjoying this.
A decent if not altogether adventurous album.

After one listen I'd go with a 6/10. I think there were some decent songs, and a nice almost Floyd vibe in some parts. Also crushing mediocrity in others.
I certainly think it's better than the last few FF albums.
Relapse is proud to present the deluxe reissue of YOB's The Great Cessation.
Originally released in 2009, the trio's 5th full-length record is a master lesson in cosmic Doom. Epic, crushing, and heavy beyond words, YOB achieved legendary status in recent years due to their unmatched aesthetic and incredible body of work. The Great Cessation is a flawless document of a band reformed and reinspired like never before. Ebbing and flowing between thunderous, skull-splitting riffage and rhythm to meditative moments of introspective psychedelia, The Great Cessation is an essential piece in the pantheon of YOB's illustrious output.
This definitive edition has been completely remastered by Heba Kadry (The Mars Volta, Diamanda Galas, Slowdive) and includes stunning new artwork plus two bonus tracks (previously only available on vinyl).
- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.
This album is pretty darn good. Nice mellow build ups then some heavy groovy shit thrown in to wake you up in case you've drifted to far into dreamland.
