So my initial observations:
* I hope you guys like Brann's clean vocals, because they seem to be on every fucking track now (I don't mind them to be fair)
* It has a couple of really good tracks - really enjoyed Steambreather and Roots Remain. Jaguar God was also quite interesting, it starts off quite ballady and then it then morphs into something more proggy than what we're used to with current Mastodon.
* It's very much a continuation from The Hunter and Once More 'Round The Sun. I think it's safe to say if you're not a massive fan of those, you won't dig this one a bunch either.
* On first listen I'd probably rate it somewhere around a 6/10, which is probably where I expected it based on the singles. About on par with The Hunter, but not quite as good as Once More 'Round The Sun or anything before those.

The video is good. Zandy Hartig being in it is also pretty cool.

I think the album is growing on me a bit. I think 6/10 is a bit harsh, might be closer to a 7/10. What is good on the album is quite good (which is mostly the first half) especially the tracks Precious Stones, Steambreather, Roots Remain and Word to the Wise. As mentioned before I think Jaguar God is a pretty good track as well.

Aside from a little more use of piano and other "noise" I doubt there is anything you'd consider "weird" or even unexpected on the album.

It's REALLY fucking good! I'm not even finished with the first run through. Thankful that the pre-release songs I wasn't so hot on were right up front so the rest of the journey has been all "new" to my ears. It's another baby step progression wise for them, but I think it's really good.

I like it! It's really growing on me after each listen. I really like Word to the Wise. Will be interesting to hear the new tracks live!

It keeps growing on me but there's something about it that I don't like.. It feels like i'm listening to My Chemical Romance or something sometimes. I dunno but I just get that vibe. Nontheless I liked it more than I thought I would!

What a piece of shit this album is, meh.
- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

Haven't listened to MCR enough to really comment on that one! Aren't MCR a punk band?

I'm finishing it up now, and I have to say I'm pretty positive on it. I imagine it'll grow on me too.

I don't hear the My Chemical Romance comparison, not that I'm all that familiar with them.

You're both right, after a second thought I retract that statement. Just got a new metal-ish 2006 era vibe with the clean vocal chorus (not that it's anything new when it comes to Mastodon). Haven't listened to MCR besides on the radio, thought they all sounded the same. Enough about that..

Sounds like Mastodon have another new album coming:

http://www.metalsucks.net/2017/08/17/ma ... september/
The news comes via two sources: 1) An Amazon listing that has since been pulled, with a September 22nd release date via Reprise Records listed, and 2) guitarist Brent Hinds’ own Instagram account (embedded below), along with the album artwork.

At the beginning of this year Hinds spoke about a solo album called Cold Dark Place he said he’d written and planned to release in June on Record Store Day (problem: Record Store Day isn’t in June). Now it seems as if Hinds and the band have collectively said “fuck it,” and they’ve decided to release it as a proper Mastodon album.

Also sounds like their band dynamic has either gotten comfortable with a new, less "together" method or they ain't doing so good haha.

So the new release is an EP Cold Dark Place which appears to be a few b-sides off their last couple of albums.

That track was about all I expected from a B-side.

In other news, I'm still really digging the new album, it has grown on me quite a bit.

EP is really fucking good! Then again, Proggy/Southern Rock Mastodon is my favorite Mastodon as of late so... go figure. I like this better than the full new album.
