Yep. Pretty much took all the same photos, too.

It's rather "unshocking" to a Westerner, but the Koreans and Chinese were blown away.

Is this why North Lorea is mad at South Lorea?

That's up north around Suwon I think.

Not having watched it, I think that was covered by a Chinese channel, who look down, in general, on Koreans.

For good fucking reasons, if you ask me - but in my opinion, the Chinese are just as fucked up.

I forget where I read this but it pretty much sums it up: The Chinese are dirty on the outside, clean on the inside. The Japanese are clean on the outside, dirty on the inside. The Koreans are dirty on both the outside and inside.

Having been to all three, you're kind of right. Korea is the butthole of East Asia. Japan is sublime, clean, polite, and just fantastic. The people, however, have a serious dark side.

The Chinese just don't give a fuck. The country is a shithole (seeing Beijing's air in the daytime will give you nightmares), and the people straight-up don't care about you or how you perceive them. That said, if I had my time again (I'm done travelling Asia), I'd give China a massive go over both Korea (nothing there) and Japan (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive).

There's so much to China, as it's a massive country. I could totally put up with cunty people to see the amazing deserts, peaks, and rainforests.

Or maybe I should just do Australia properly. ;)

I can't find that quote anywhere so I guess if no one else can locate it I'll just pass that shit off as my something my grandfather wrote when he returned from battle in Korea. meanwhile, judging from the pictures I've scene all he did was get hammered and bang Korean prostitutes. allegedly.

Anyone had any experience with Koh Samet in Thailand?

I've been looking into low key places to relax for a week or so and this dude said 'Expect to find hot Scandinavian and Russian tourist girls gracing the beaches of Koh Samet with few Thai people other than those that are working on the island.' so I'm automatically sold.

Any other places in SE Asia offering the same would be appreciated.

Basically low key with hot Europeans.

Thanks.

I'll be fucked if I'm spending another christmas break here.

The other plan is to go see a mate in NZ.

I have not been to Koh Samet but have been to some other islands in Thailand further south. A friend who lives in Thailand had told me that the islands in the north of the Gulf of Thailand deal with more of the pollution coming down from Bangkok than the southern islands which makes sense. Koh Samet might be a bit better since it's around the corner... way better than Pattaya.
Here is photo of Koh Samet beaches :?

I was in Ko Phangan and Ko Tao as well as parts of northern Thailand. Even though Ko Phangan does have the huge full moon parties, you can still find quite beaches around the island to chill. One of the beaches I was at was just north of the full moon party beach at a cove called Had Yuan. Only way to get there was by boat. Fantastic place to chill and it only cost $15 per night to stay!!

I think you are pretty much going to find girls at all the beaches there so if you don't like one spot just move to the next beach. There are many. The other beach I went to is a little further north. Ko Tao. One of the only place in the world where 3 islands are connected by a small sand bridge. Freaking beautiful!

I have not been on the Andaman Sea side of Thailand but have heard good things about Railay and Tonsai.

Went to Penang at Christmas time. Glorious food and very relaxing. Very worrying to see the increasing muslim dominance of the culture though. This democratic country now has sharia law and feels so much more culturally divided to me than it did 25 years ago.

Anywhere south of Thailand should be fine for that, Tyson. I still strongly recommend Boracay in The Philippines.

Also Langkawi off the west coast of Malaysia. Nothing but Euro touros. A few American expats living in Singapore, but mainly Euros.

I noticed that in the places that we frequented they tended to be a bit hippyish though. We didn't really go to the proper clubs - more just the bars on the beach with old stoned Malays playing acoustic reggae. So, there's that.

And if you're seriously planning this for next Xmas break, start saving and go for five star awesomeness. I'll be up for that, and it's a ridiculous amount of time to plan.

Thanks mate I am glad to see you are still with us. I worry for you. I did get a little adventurous myself though, I walked the less trodden path in the national park in Penang. :)

Good job getting outside your comfort zone. New experiences make an exciting life :D

I'll be traveling to Oceanside, CA to visit family in May. I'm currently looking for tickets to the Cinquanta show and we'll be going to watch Conan as well as shark fishing and parasailing. Any suggestions on cool shit to see or do in the LA/SD/Oceanside area?

Stone Company Store - Oceanside
310 N Tremont St, Oceanside, CA 92054

Really cool place to just chill and drink some good beer. The Oceanside Pier can also be cool when/if people are out surfing and there's usually tons of eye candy to ogle too.
