The Ocean comes close, that album is banging. I put my cousin onto that album and she bumped it all the way out to L.A. on the road.
I had a feeling that is what you were getting at but I didn't want to assume. Koloss IS fucking brilliant but there have been a bunch of great metal albums out this year. I do get what you are saying though. I try not to compare Meshuggah albums to other metal albums. It's just not a fair fight.

not sure what actually gets passed as metal by the likes of MOG these days, but Nails released a killer fucking record earlier this year (will be on my top 10 of the year) ... DEP is likely to remain my album of the year barring some unknown drops something out of left field in the next month or so and I'm quite enjoying this deafheaven record (quite surprised, on it's second spin this am) ... quite eclectic screamo over great melodies ... loud, quiet, segues, instrumentals and just for moggers, some 10 minute tracks. Not all entirely metal, but some loud fucking parts.

"TRES CABRONES" is album of the year. Callin' it.

Compared to last year, bands this year didn't have a chance.
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

I love the melvins, but not a fucking chance in hell that's the best record this year ... probably at least 10 records this year I like better

I agree, as someone who listens to their music daily along with Big Black (literally every day, for 2 years).

Joy Division Singer's Kitchen Table to Fetch $13K on EBay

Ian Curtis, frontman for the beloved post-punk band, committed suicide in his kitchen on May 18, 1980.

The kitchen table owned by the late Ian Curtis, singer for the post-punk band Joy Division, is up for auction on eBay. The item has already collected 63 bids and its current price is set at 8,200 GBP, or approximately $13,000.

Curtis' suicide on May 18, 1980 is one of music's most tragic gone-too-soon tales. As chronicled in the 2007 movie, Control (based on widow Deborah Curtis' moving memoir, Touching from a Distance), the frontman suffered from epilepsy and depression which contributed to his desperate state on the eve of the band's first North American tour.

Curtis took his own life by hanging himself in the kitchen of his home at 77 Barton Street in Macclesfield, Great Britain, 20 miles outside of Manchester. He was married and a father to a one-year-old daughter at the time.

Fans of the influential band can own a true piece of rock history with this piece, albeit morbidly. Made of wood, the table is describe as 75 cm wide and 98 cm long with extension flaps that add another 28 cm.

According to NME, following Curtis' death, Debbie Curtis sold the house and many of its contents to a neighbor, Dorothy Smith, who operated it as a bed and breakfast. Smith passed down the table to her daughter in 1996 when she got married and settled down in Macclesfield.

The table was then returned to the Curtis family in 2005, and, although offered to director Anton Corbijn for the filming of Control, it was not used.

The table ended up back in the hands of Natalie Curtis, Ian and Debbie's daughter, but was later sold on eBay to its current owner, who is himself a "struggling artist," according to the eBay listing.
The auction is scheduled to end on Nov. 13.

David Lynch Releases New Song "Bad The John Boy"

Director/actor/musician David Lynch has released a new track entitled “Bad The John Boy”, which is technically a bonus track to this year’s The Big Dream. The track will be available on limited edition 12″ vinyl tomorrow, so pre-order now to make sure you have a copy!

Producer Dean Hurley states that the song, “…wasn’t really recorded with the LP in mind, but it was done around the end of last year when the bulk of the album was being made. It was earmarked for something else entirely, but that thing didn’t happen in a way that required the song… so up until now, it was ‘a song with no home.’”

The 12″ will feature the original track as well as a remix done by Venetian Snares. Hurley describes the remix as, “…music for the end crawl of a bootlegged sci-fi/horror film that you borrowed from your friend’s older brother and caused you to realize for the first time that you were actually scared in broad daylight.”

Black Tongue is a Double Black IPA, brewed in collaboration with metal legends - Mastodon

Rumbling smoky notes are offset by the elixir of misbehaving punchy hops. Mosaic and Magnum hops to the front, with Carafa Special 3 Malt and Pale on the baseline, this is our biggest and most powerful creation to date. The band wanted to create a 'pallet crusher' and that's certainly what has been delivered. A beer for enjoying slowly, letting the bombardment of flavour and intensity hit your tongue and explode with every sip.
Pre-order now for despatch on 3rd December. Shipped from the UK.

BEER SPECS
ABV: 8.3%
OG: 1080
IBU: 120
Malts: Marris Otter, Carafa Special 3
Hops: Magnum, Mosaic
Black Tongue is forcibly contained within 330ml Bottles
