Soulful and funky with a hint of disco.

Could I get a copy of that without the Tool and album title?

Sure. It's a photo that I took that I was playing around with in Ps.

Let me find it...

Aenima = angry, frustrated. hints of experimentalism and 90's industrial metal flourishes
10,000 Days = proggy, meandering and closer to a "classic rock" sound. the band's most "positive" sounding album.
Undertow = unsure of itself. stripped back with a very Rollins Band feel. hints here and there at what was to come.
Tool V = ???
Funny, I consider Lateralus waaaay more positive than any of their other albums by far... The only negative song in my mind would be Ticks n leeches.

my gut feeling is that Tool V will be a whole CD of 'Jambi' like songs.

i guess it will be double album, containing a 40+ minute track, the long epic rosetta stoned kind of stuff blair was referring to

I'm really hoping for a double album as well. Maybe that's why it's taking 15 years to make it.

Rate all the Tool and Tool-related albums in one big list!

I've been thinking it will be a double album with a feature length film for the whole album since 2007. Will it actually manifest? Most would say I'm hoping far too much, but I'm not really that attached to it. Anyway here's my list.
Lateralus
Aenima
Undertow
10,000 Days
13th Step
Mer De Noms
Salival
13th Step (remixes)
APC acoustic album
V is for Vagina (remix album)
COMP
V is for Vagina
Opiate
I haven't listened to mtvoid or volto stuff and I don't count eMotive because it's covers. I count the remixes because I really love electronic music.

There are two kinds of people in this world...the ones that consider Lateralus to be tool's best album....and the ones that realise Aenima is better 8-)

Some people just don't understand that Aenima is the transition between undertow and lateralus. Lateralus is what they were trying to create from the beginning. Everything that is stated or dabbled in on albums previous to lateralus is clearly presented in a balanced and intelligent way on lateralus. So much of the angry, aggressive, gothic nonsense from previous albums is focusef into objective archetypal ideas in the grudge, the patient, schism, ticks and leaches. All of the spiritual concepts are broken down into there clearest and cleanest forms throughout the album. And concentrated at times. Reflection is possible the most beautiful song they have written so far. The riffs are most mature and the drums are the most advanced. Lateralus is by far the best tool album. Aenima is a close second.

I'm glad we could all finally agree on this

10: Conditions of My Parole
9: V is for Viagra
8: Thirteenth Step
7: Mer De Noms
6: Opiate
5: Salival
4: Undertow
3: Aenima
2: 10,000 Days
1: Lateralus

I'm the only motherfucker here who has 10,000 Days in their top 2? So be it. Wings Pt II is my favorite song. It is the deepest exploration of the human soul I have ever heard in music. The Pot rocks HARD, Vicarious is like a theme song for Sauron, and Rosetta Stoned is alien prog. To me, 10,000 Days is more creative than Aenima. But Aenima, 10,000 days and Lateralus are all 10/10 albums imo anyway.

I really like 10,000 days. I just think that Aenima and undertow are more squishy. 10k days is really abrasive sounding. I love wings live, but usually skip it on the album. I basically just listen to Jambi and RS. Occasionally, I will listen to the other tracks. I used to really like Intention/RIT, but I kinda faded away from that. Lateralus is the only album I can listen to all the way through and still feel good about. And if you listen really closely to Aenima with with quality headphones, you'll hear some interesting stuff, especially on Eulogy. But in all honesty, I rarely listen to Tool these days. Sometimes I go months without even thinking about them. Recently, I've been more interested.

People don't understand that there's only one opinion that's important, and that's mine...

So i have this theory that if you were heavily into Tool pre Lateralus, then odds are Aenima is the album that truly blew you away by Tool that made you the fan you are today so its hard to beat that first time.. where as if youre a Tool fan post Lateralus then the same can be said of that album for you.

Obviously its not fool proof but still keen to hear peoples thoughts on here??

I have been a big fan since Undertow, but it didn't click until the Aenima tour. I saw several shows between 96-98, and they are still some of the most memorable concerts I have ever been to. As much as I love Aenima and how it changed my entire perspective on music, I still think Lateralus is my favorite Tool album - but not by much. I think that your theory is better fit for fans who didn't hear Tool until 10,000 Days.

I became a Tool fan in 2000 and my favorite from those two depends on the day and what mood I'm in.

So, uh, your theory doesn't work on me.
