Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Yeah but is Maynard / Tool going to be lauded over in 250+ years like Bach is? Can't say I've listened to any Duke before but I would be fairly confident in saying not all 3000 compositions were masterpieces?

Their “legacy” (if one wants to call it that) is cemented over some great albums during about a 15 year time period. If nothing else they have that.
Regarding the Bach post I’m sure it’s the same- time has been kind to him and if there’s some stuff that isn’t memorable, the stuff that is memorable outweighs it. (Hope that makes sense)

Nice troll Uke.
The reason that I stated my concern is that it relates to the article. The comment that Danny made regarding Maynard simplifying the new music worries me. It might be nothing! I am fully aware that the music behind the new APC songs are pretty yuck, but the lyrics are some of the worst I have ever seen from him. I wasn't a fan of 10,000 Days for a long time. The music was great (even though it sounded familiar), but the lyrics and vocals left much to be desired. That album has since grown on me quite considerably. Maynard stated that he had a difficult time coming in after the music to 10,000 Days was written and putting lyrics and melodies over it. It showed. He wanted more input for the follow-up. I still am of the opinion that more input is part of the long delay. I think it's quite possible that Maynard refused some of the music because it doesn't flow with how he is able to sing, now that he is older. Music has probably been scrapped because of this. I might have my concerns about how much Maynard has in the tank, but I still have complete faith in their writing abilities. Tool's musicianship can absolutely polish a turd. Here's to May 2019.

AS far as saying maynard doesnt have the voice he did earlier in his career; thats absolutely true. However, that doesnt mean we wont get some amazing screams and yells on a new Tool record. He just has to do it enough times to get it recorded... then they can post process the shit out of his vocals until they achieve a sound they like... And then he never performs them to the same quality live. Simple. Im ok with that. Get me amazing vocals on an album, and then skip the scream at live shows.

If you were making money from them you would probably think differently.hellboy wrote:I could write a song a day if I wanted too as well. Having a lot to do might make the music worse but it could also make it better because he's doing it. Songwriting is a skill and it takes practice and work. If you stop playing your instrument for 6 months you can't expect to play as well as when you were playing everyday, it's the same thing with writing. You need to do it, in order to be able to do it well.
Bach is one of the greatest composers in Western music and Duke Ellington is one of the best Jazz composers and I think it's partly due to the fact that they would write a lot.

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Personally, I took it more at a broad statement regarding Maynard's writing technique, not something specific to the next album. My take is that Maynard takes something that is complex, and the makes it seem simple with his lyrics.Bill Hilly wrote:The reason that I stated my concern is that it relates to the article. Unless we think that Maynard's vocals on the next album will consist of "ooooh yeahs" and "alright!"

Some right-wing stuff would be so left field from them. Maybe an alt-right album cover? I hope this album is chock-full of little political puns and rabble-rousing anthems! Fuck yeah boys. Oh, and so many huge screams.

This made me laugh... Was hoping for a little more from the article, but got what I expected. Still happy with some positive commentary from the band i.e coming soon...... Nice to see this thread light up for a bit. Have a good weekend all...Busty McCracken wrote:Alrigggght Sam diego!!!

I only caught like the last two seconds but Adam was just doing that live Instagram video feed at what I’m assuming was practice.
Edit: apparently they played the Grudge with an extended ending

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Can confirm it was the Grudge. I don't know about an extended ending, but maybe I wasn't paying attention closely enough.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Hopefully someone was quick enough to grab it.
Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
I listened to the whole stream. It was simply the grudge. If it was an extended ending it wasn't noticable. Sounded exactly like the grudge to me

- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Having finally listened to it, I didn't hear any extended ending, just a small solo where there normally isn't one.

That was a REALLY cool moment to just stumble into. Thankful Adam did that. I happened to open instagram just as he began the feed so I saw the whole thing. Very cool. More of this.

OD: "Danny, where are we with the new Tool album? Can you give us an update?"
DANNY: "It’s all coming together really well. We’ll be hitting the studio again very soon and have a couple of gigs in May (Coachella Festival), so hopefully, we’ll have the album out before that. It’s wishful thinking at this point. I actually think I said that this time last year (laughing)."
OD: "Do you have a lot of material for the album?"
DANNY: "Yes, there’s a lot of material that’s already done so, we’re looking to go into the studio pretty quickly here and off we go! Things are just rollin’ along. We don’t just hang about here in Hollywood, we are pretty much working all the time."
