Classic Album of the Week: Genesis - Foxtrot

Undoubtedly fits the "Classic" designation. Nothing beats Gabriel era Genesis, and this is one of the best of the bunch.

If you haven't heard it, you're welcome.

There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason with this concept. Do people just post an album whenever they feel like it? How is this choice a classic to FE members? Can people just post an AOTW whenever they feel like it? What's to stop me posting an AOTW and a Classic AOTW at the exact same time?

Classic = mid week

Album = Weekend

I stopped because Mog said bad things about me ;_;

But then he stopped posting

Moral?

Don't say bad things about me or you may disappear

Who gets to decide?

And good moral, btw.

Evidently bitching about a selection trumps actually listening and posting your opinion about it. OK, whatever.

By the way, a Classic is a Classic. I don't remember the guidelines stating it needs to be tailored to some consensus of Fourtheye members. And good fucking luck getting a consensus from this group.

But I still love you Crow. HNY.

Now shut up and listen.

Edit: To answer your question, I think it's fairly fast and loose on claiming a spot. I actually claimed a spot a couple back, but blew it. So, I took the opportunity this week. Post one next week if you'd like, nobody has claimed it.

Yeah, I'm not going to be a part of this or AOTW.

Had never heard this before, wasn't terribly surprised or disappointed by it.

The good: lots of cool music on it, the long songs don't feel long *giggity*, overall good listen

The bad: never been a fan of Collins' singing, Genesis or solo. Gets to a point where they're just drilling a hole in the side of my head. Some of the music is TOO easy to listen too, there were a few moments where I forgot it was on.

6.5/10 is the best I can do

It's not Phil Collins, it's Peter Gabriel.

Oh dang, I even looked up the lineup before I posted too. Saw "Phil Collins-vocals" (actually said "percussion and backing vocals) and assumed he was the lead.

IRREGARDLESS, I feel pretty much the same about Gabriel's vocals so just place his name instead of Collins in my review.

Just found out The Musical Box, an amazing Genesis tribute band (licensed and approved by the band) is touring in North America and will be performing Foxtrot (as well as Selling England by the Pound on separate nights) live in SF next month.

I'll be there. Saw them do Lamb many years ago, and it was really good.

Here's a vid/compilation of performances for the entire Lamb Lies Down on Brodway show. The show I saw had superior musicianship, but these guys are still great.

@ RP - Thanks for listening and commenting. I'm surprised at this:

While Collins is/was an amazing drummer, for me his vocals were merely adequate in comparison to Gabriel
Gabriel, on the other hand, is one of the best rock vocalists of all time, IMO. His range and emotion, along with his impeccable delivery put him up there with the best. Not to mention his killer songwriting, flute playing and dressing up like a flower. All awesome, no opossum.

PS -
The prefix ir- (i-r) is a negative prefix, so if you add the prefix ir to a word that's already negative like regardless, you're making a double-negative word that literally means “without without regard.”
So. What about the rest of you bozos. I count 2 actual reviews, several posts bitching about AOTW & related, and then some random corrections, etc. Did anybody else bother to, you know... listen to it? Still plenty of time (like from now until forever), get on it.

Gabriel is a pretty unique artist I'll give you that but I get tired of his singing pretty quick.

I don't know if you're joking or not but my use of the word "irregardless"was meant in jest.

And by the way, it's an actual word. In the dictionary and everything. It's just not widely accepted.

That's not entirely accurate. It's listed in the dictionary because it's commonly used, not because it's an actual word. Dictionaries don't even really accept it as a real word; most dictionaries list Irregardless as being an "incorrect" or "nonstandard".

The fact that it's a double-negative contributes to it commonly being listed as "informal" or "nonstandard".

Ya, I got the CAPS thing. I am just more interested in Grammar than Jeebus.

And I wasn't trying to change your mind on Gabriel, just replying with my take.

Perhaps you should waste less time whining about grammar and more time reading the Holy Bible!

"Coke" is pronounced "cock" in many Asian languages, so you might have a point.
