I think he takes the work seriously when in the act of creating it.
I don't think he likes the idea of being a musician and all the connotations attached to that. He seems like less of a dick head now than in the past to me, but less interested in music.

Re: The Melvins Thread
Wow, I just got Tres Cabrones. I wasn't sure what to think with Dale playing bass. His drumming is one of the main reasons I love listening to Melvins. Yet once again the album kicked ass. I didn't like The Bride Screamed Murder as much, and Freak Puke was interesting but obviously a whole different...

Re: The Grudge
I envisage the three of them (sans Maynard) sitting on the floor in a darkened room. Adam is nestling a cup of coffee (although it may have been something a little stronger) and Justin is wearing a poncho. On the wall hangs a photo of Richard Nixon. With boobies and horns childishly scribbled over ...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
There is no real yardstick to measure 'responsible use' or 'addiction'. I have been a drug addict for many years and I recognize that because if I didn't have them I curled into a ball into my house, stopped paying the bills, and basically died. Yet I never ended up homeless, even fucking with heroi...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Holy fucking shit. Production is the most over rated and retarded fucking discussion on music forums. Good music/musicianship, song writing, etc. will make it a moot point. Is there better produced albums than others? Yes. At the end of the day it's about the songs. (Hey, hear that awesome Kanye pr...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Sure, 10,000 Days might be a victim of the "loudness war", but we all know that is NOT the reason people are "unsatisfied" with the record. The point is that plenty of artists, even a handful of ones actually selling records, are eschewing the terrible mastering and that would b...

Re: Someone already has an XBONE . . .
I don't like the online war games, yet the alternative is the one in a hundred chance of finding something like Portal that functions as a puzzle yet isn't gay, so I stopped playing games as the bro culture overtook it. I don't want to go online with games and more and more they seem geared towards...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
Really? Because on a good system its way more obvious how hotly its mastered vs. on shitty speakers. I don't require good production to have a good record. Most of my favorite records are considered lo-fi or even dated sounding. It's just an incredibly loudly mastered album compared to Lateralus, an...

Re: Random Tool Social Media thread
To be fair 10k Days sounds like shit. It was a victim of the loudness war. It clips. Listen to the clips anytime Maynard has an 's' sound. The guitar sound is so hot and overdubbed that the bass turns to mud when the third guitar overdub is brought in. The drums are mixed like Slipknot brought back ...

Re: Random Music News
As much as I love Swans , I find them a difficult band to recommend. The uninitiated would do well to start with their latest stuff and venture backwards through their catalogue ONLY when and if they have the stomach for it. I agree, as someone who listens to their music daily along with Big Black ...

Re: Top 10 Guitarists of All Time
As someone who doesn't really care for the technical aspect of guitar playing, my favorite guitarists are based on tonal characteristics, novelty, how they fit into the atmosphere of their music etc. To me, the actual sound of the guitar is what I love about it as an instrument--mainly, the fucking ...

Everybody's a critic :| The Parabola cover is pure avant-garde. To incorporate the throat singing that isn't in the original version is mind blowing. The Stinkfist cover I was delighted with to see elements of performance art, that is, the goggles...a critique on the postmodernist, ultra clean and ...

Re: Maynard @ Joe Rogan
I noticed during the interview that Rogan has a terrible memory, asking Maynard stuff that was essentially the same as last interview genuinely in conversation, which at times Maynard seemed to show cognizance of. He gives a very different kind of interview to Rogan in that he's not stand offish or ...

Good read. He sounds very optimistic that another cohesive, full-length record is going to come out with APC. I just don't see it happening.

1. "Stinkfist" etc You too: Send Hellboy a PM to get you off the Spam list so your posts don't get filtered. Also, why the quotes for the songs? Just curious. I was going to just say be like Melvins etc and tour a 'classic' album, specifically Aenima. Instead of typing the songs out, I co...
