Blair and Junior frequent this board, so its no surprise someone in the Tool Camp got wind of this. Wonder if there will be legal repercussions.

I wouldn't think so, it was a polite request - no threats or anything like that.iloveposters wrote:Blair and Junior frequent this board, so its no surprise someone in the Tool Camp got wind of this. Wonder if there will be legal repercussions.

Re: Questions for Adam
I am by no means trying to be negative here, but how would you think the band/Adam would feel if you recorded the QandA purely for your own use?
Was the issue that they/Adam saw it as someone basically giving for free what they/Adam charge $500 for?
And if that's the case, why don't they come down harder on people who record their shows and upload them on to YouTube? Obviously a small screen can in no way compete with a live performance, but frankly, it's not an awful substitute if you simply don't want to spend the money on a concert.
Also, what's the difference between a recording of the QandA and a very detailed (as we've seen in this forum) review of what he said?
In my opinion, I can't see how making a recording of the QandA for your own use could in any way be seen as a bad thing. If I'm paying money, and I'm not being a dick, I should be able to record whatever I want.
The grey area is when you be a dick and share it online.
I don't know, just trying to figure out what the problem is.

What's illegal about it?? Nothing. I understand being polite and removing it.. I shouldn't have posted it, but no one signed anything saying they wouldn't.

Re: Questions for Adam
I think this basically ruined future QnAs in the future. Two bad experiences.
1. Fan misunderstands Adam and ends up on Rollingstone.com and various other outlets
2. Fan records QnA/Soundcheck and gets posted online and then requested to be taken down
This band really is against recording video/audio so I'm sure they are super pissed. Maybe its just their record label who is pissed?
I dont see what the big deal is though. If i spend $500 on a drum clinic and I wanted to record it and share it with others big deal. Oh well.

Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out. What's the issue here? The fact that you're potentially taking money away from them? The fact that you shared secrets?xZ1mM3r wrote:What's illegal about it?? Nothing. I understand being polite and removing it.. I don't know why this is a problem, yet the countless videos on YouTube are still up. I don't understand what the difference is.

The issue is that Adam doesnt want to be sued because he was talking smack about shitty LA bands in the late 80's!

Re: Questions for Adam
I think it's nothing more than the band trying to preserve the value of the VIP ticket. My guess is that if this came out some time after the tour it would probably remain online.
And besides, my dealings with the band and management have always been on good terms, and given that the request to bring it down was on a friendly basis rather than a cease and desist, I have no issues towing the line. The bottom line is, the recording was always going to make it out on the internet in one form or another.
For what it's worth, I think the Q&A being online is a positive thing overall. It helps fans gain some perspective on what has been a frustrating period for many. I think there will be quite a few fans walking away from this feeling much better about Tool and how they go about things.

Re: Questions for Adam
Are you implying that, should the owner of the recording wish, you'd have no problems linking it again AFTER the tour?
Apart from that, you made perfect sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Questions for Adam
So there is a chain of command, Tool tells HB to knock it off, HB tells us to knock it off and we go home and beat our significant others.
Re: Questions for Adam
The whole VIP package concept makes me shudder. It's an exploitation of their fan base as far as I am concerned. The whole thing creeps me out. They play in that arena and they get burned then that's their issue.

Re: Questions for Adam
That's an interesting question. Having been asked by the band not to, I will respect that wish. Otherwise, no I wouldn't have an ethical issue with posting it.The Boss wrote:Are you implying that, should the owner of the recording wish, you'd have no problems linking it again AFTER the tour?
Re: Questions for Adam
Agreed with HB, i listened to about a little less than half of it and then stopped, kinda felt like it was taking a little away from what the experience will be like, granted if i wasn't doing the vip i sure as hell would love to listen, but for the people who paid guess the band is trying to do them justice by keeping it as an experience for them

Wait, you're saying that TOOL fans have no restraint.azbay wrote:Agreed with HB, i listened to about a little less than half of it and then stopped, kinda felt like it was taking a little away from what the experience will be like, granted if i wasn't doing the vip i sure as hell would love to listen, but for the people who paid guess the band is trying to do them justice by keeping it as an experience for them
Surely if you're going to a VIP session next week or something, you'd be able to stop yourself from not listening to a recording of a VIP session.
In turn, you're saying that TOOL don't want the experience ruined for others.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo: Don't listen to it, maybe?

Re: Questions for Adam
hence why I stopped listening to it, I honestly wouldn't have a problem with the whole thing being available for the masses to listen to (and could hold restraint not listening to it any further), but I'm sure on here and going to the show people would dissect the hell out of it and lots more spoiler tags needed. I enjoy reading through out this site and all the hating on mog, you (the boss), and tyson that goes on. So staying away from this site really isn't an option either

At this point, does anyone expect a fan at a QandA to come up with some mind-blowing question that would deliver an equally mind-blowing answer from Jones?

Re: Questions for Adam
My first thoughts when I listened to it were 'wow, this would suck if I had just paid 500 quid to see this'. But then I realised that he doesn't actually give any new information. All of what he said was already common knowledge if you've read all the interviews and news posts over the last 5 years. You're paying 500 quid to meet the guy in person, and I don't think that is detracted from by listening to an online recording.
Re: Questions for Adam
I know all involved meant well, but it was epically bad taste uploading that recording before the tour was even over.
