Also looks like Justin completely made the jump to Warwick now? I was wondering if he'd trade off when he got that endorsement/custom model.

edit: Nah, he's playing the Wal on Invincible.

Also really dying to know the lyrics to both songs played so far, because from what little I can hear, they're directly about them and the gap in producing work/will they continue on. Which is kind of exactly what I thought much of the lyrical content would relate to.

Tool - "Invincible"

Longing tooth and soul
Longing for another win
Merge into the fray
Weapon out and bellied in

A warrior struggling to remain consequential

Go around
Bold and proud
Where I've been
Here I am

Beating chest and drum
Beating tired bones again
Age-old battle, mine
Weapon out and bellied in

Tales told of battles won
Of things we've done
Come give your love again

Beating tired bones
Tripping through, remember when
Once invincible now the armor's wearing thin
Heavy shield down

Warrior struggling to remain relevant
Warrior struggling to remain consequential

Cry aloud
Bold and proud
Where I've been
Here I am
Where I am

Warrior struggling to remain relevant
Warrior struggling to remain consequential

A tear in my eyes
Chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom sword
Filled with hope, I can taste mythical
Fountain's false hope, perhaps, but the truth never got in my way before now
Feel the sting, feeling time bearing down

A tear in my eyes
Chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom sword
Filled with hope, I can taste mythical
Fountain's false hope, perhaps, but the truth never got in my way before now
Feel the sting, feeling time bearing down

False hope, perhaps, but the truth never got in my way before now
Feel the sting, feeling time bearing down

Bearing down

The more I listen to Invincible the more I can't believe how fucking good it is. Think I'm slowly realising in stages that I'm actually listening to new Tool music. It won't sink in properly until I hear it on cd and I can't imagine how incredible that will be.

I would have loved new music sooner too, but it really seems like this album was quite a bit of a struggle for the guys.

Here's hoping we all make it to release day!

I'm trying hard not to be too critical over live recordings of first performances, but neither of these songs are really doing anything for me. In particular, the vocal melodies are the most bland things I've ever heard out of Maynard.

^Listen to Descending through a good stereo system; the album version will sound even better obviously. Yes, both tracks take a lot longer to build up to a climactic point but I am still very impressed with what I have heard through a fan captured Youtube clip thus far, particularly Descending.

TBH, first time i played both tracks through my laptop at work I was like "meh" but with a good sound system and the volume turned up I was blown away. Cannot wait to hear it all on the album version etc.

Anyone who isn't in jubilation for new Tool music is probably doing themselves a disservice by listening to the music before studio versions are released. They just debuted 2 songs clocking in at 25 minutes of new music. With the length of these songs, they deserve to be listened to as a whole. I think anyone having concerns will have a change of tune once this thing comes out.

Something we all have to face my friend. It is cliche but every day is precious because nothing is guaranteed. One moment here, alive, sentient, full of life, and then the next, gone. Hopefully someone's memory.

Impressed with the lyrics. Maynard, on both Descending and Invincible, is doing what I hoped he would on this album, and that is step back and let the music shine. He isn't pushing past his limits and found the right pockets to fit in and enhance the songs. I suspect he knows this album is more than anything about the other 3 and their struggle to get to this place.

Of course music is subjective but I am struggling to understand how anyone could not be impressed by these two songs. Technically, particularly Descending, is Lateralus level good. If you prefer more experimental Tool rather than purely technical Invincible hits that mark (although it is also a technical gem).. Adam wasn't kidding when he said a lot of this was in 7.

The melody on Invincible already feels like classic Tool to me. He adds just the right amount to highlight what the band is doing and is using his voice as an instrument very tastefully IMO. That is kind of what i was expecting from him this time around, although we did get some pretty intense vocals on Descending. If you guys didn't notice we did get a sort of scream around the halfway point.

Maynard is doing some really eerie vocal effect in the beginning of Descending that blends with the main riff and gives me chills with the wind blowing the red clouds in the background. Dark as hell. I feel like I have heard that part before. Was Maynard doing those vocals along with the main riff when they teased Descending in the past because it gives me a feeling of deja Vu and is extremely haunting to me.

Invincible is so colorful musically which makes sense with the stunning visuals that I honestly can't even comprehend fully, but depicts exactly what the music makes you feel. Tool is exploring territory on this one that I was hoping to see them do. That textural sound they create is infinitely interesting. I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of but it feels so familiar. Someone said it sounds Native American, which is true I think in a way but there's something about it that is so deeply spiritual.

These songs already feel like they have always existed in the Aether. That's how you know a piece of music is good. You feel a sense of inexplicable nostalgia for some time in ancient history or maybe some other reality that is beyond this realm that Tool are channeling to remind us of who we used to be or where we came from or where we are going and that there is something beyond this physical reality we perceive and that consciousness itself has the power to alter reality, therefore music and art being the most powerful Tools in the universe and Tool literally weilding the Tools of the Gods.
