It's to clean or help clean the grill. To my experience it doesn't really affect any taste.

Because onions do a remarkably good job, believe it or not. Usually just takes a half of one.

I prefer that to using some spray or something. Or it's just what I learned and it works fine for me.

I generally prefer red onions for most things onion related, although, and pardon my possible colour blindness, 'red' onions I've eaten tend to be more of a purple or magenta hue, rather than red ... Universe, if you're listening, I'm awaiting you're all-knowing response to this query, thanx.

Even the red ones? I believe these are also called spanish onions sometimes, but I can't recall them ever saying 'Hola' to me.

what about yellow onions (which, once again Universe, tend to have brown skin)?

surely, spring onions wouldn't be resourceful for cleaning purposes?

Yellow onions should really only be used when nothing else is available. White onions are the best as they pretty much go with anything.
