I presume we are talking about celebrities here? They are in a tough place. Who knows what to believe, and as the British tabloid phone tapping scandal has shown much of the stuff we hear is likely true. Celebrities use the net at their peril but they are compensated usually quite well for their pains.

As for ourselves, quite honestly if we don't engage in social media, it is quite unlikely that we will have a problem with it.

No, I'm talking about normal people here.

I edited my post above in case you were. People, particularly young adults, can and do run into problems with social media. Those problems would be very unlikely to occur if they didn't use it. I know you will say that all kids do nowadays, and to some extent that is true, but some are so very much more engaged than others. Arms length is sensible at least in those days of youthful experimentation.

Maynard's post was annoying, but maybe he made that post during one of the jams that he's not actually singing in.

It's pretty hypocritical to call him out when most would be office workers who post on facebook 50% of the time while they are at work.

Not everyone shares the same lifestyle as you Tyson. There are roughly 6 billion people on the planet who do not use social media at all. To me social media is a choice, and I am glad I do not partake. I do not feel like I am more superior because of that, it is just my choice. But to each their own.

I think it's hilarious he posted that. that fight was much more interesting than anything Puscifer has done to date. it's ironic that people on this site hate MMA and love Tool yet the frontman from Tool is watching UFC PPV's while you pay money to see him perform. that's awesome lol

FE is a form of social media. You aren't calling us, or meeting us in person. Youre putting your opinions and communicating with people via an internet medium. That's social media.

And I don't give a shit what Maynard watches on stage. Big fucking deal. He's a singer of a band. He's not a politician. It'd be different if Obama posted a picture of him during the state of the union address watching a UFC fight.

But Maynard, I don't care, he sings for a living. And im pretty sure he didn't say "hey I'm not singing this next song cause im watching a UFC here". He still did his thing. And if he didn't post the picture online NO ONE would have noticed a difference in the show. Clearly it did not affect the performance, so quit bitching

^ That is quite a stretch. If you are going to call forums, and prior to that BBS, "Social Media", than you need to redefine the concept. Most of us know very little about one another. Christ just giving out a first name is a rarity on a forum. Random people fucking around for various different reasons. Facebook and Twitter attach identity and purpose. It becomes as real a form of communication as a face to face conversation, a phone call or a text message. Social media, as we know it now, is a fairly new concept and as such creates a litany of gray areas and quite a bit of murky water to navigate.

As for Jimmy I don't give a fuck. I hate the guy. I can see valid points on both sides of the discussion, although I think they are all ultimately irrelevant. Again, if I had any legitimate interest in Tool my only real question would be when is the new album out. The rest of it is high school gossip bullshit. Who gives a shit if Maynard's wife is pregnant? Who cares what is on Marynard's phone prior to a soundcheck? All that being said, Maynard has no one to blame but himself. If you CHOOSE to put ANYTHING out for public consumption you better assume that someone, somewhere, is going to have something negative to say about it for any number of different reasons. This isn't about me hating Tool or you being a Maynard fan. It is basic common sense.

You will find I am quite easy to get on with when I am not playing "Mog the Dick" or "Mog the Magnificent". Different costumes for different occasions ;)

The show was awesome. Whatever Maynard does while on stage while not singing is irrelevant. Besides, I don't think he meant any disrespect. He has plenty of other ways to disrespect his fans.

Obvious troll, but what else is new? Hopefully somebody else calls you out on your faulty logic, but here goes:

He's onstage for 70 minutes (being generous there) a night FFS. That's his entire "work day" in your ridiculous example. ANY time he's not focused has a much higher percentage than the ordinary office worm.

Not to mention if anybody was spending 50% of their time posting to FB they should be fired (unless that IS their job), and their boss as well for allowing it.

I have to say, it does lend credence to the "you don't give a shit about your art anymore" argument where Tool is concerned. But, I'm biased as I have no interest watching meat heads beat each other up. It's not what led me to Tool or what caused me to stick around. My interest is, gasp!, in the ART.

Also though, it's one moment of one night of a tour. It's not like he spends every night up there browsing Netflix. Not what I would do personally if I were blessed enough to have my band get that successful all based on the ethos of ART > everything else. But... that's why I'm not up there? I don't know, I'm confused now. Ha.

The question is... if he were looking at porn instead of MMA... would we care? Would we applaud?

Also something to remember, Danny has had techs bringing him up to the minute updates on Laker scores before, so it's not like dudes in bands don't have nights where their mind is kind of on other things during the performance. It happens to ALL of them.

Maynard recently spoke with YEAH! regarding the 30th anniversary of Spinal Tap: http://www.yeahtv.com/spinaltap/tribute

for those who can't view it:

Maynard James Keenan (Tool)
I must have watched this film 100 times. And I still have a difficult time separating my anxiety from my enjoyment of this film. It's equal parts flawless comedy and dangerously accurate and insightful rock documentary. Anyone who has spent any significant time on the road will most likely echo this sentiment. This film cuts to the funny bone.

Favorite Moments:
Any of the scenes where one of the cast members toss out an improv moment that the others didn't expect. When you see them trying not to lose it. Priceless. #shitsandwich

It's called a persona - an actors mask. Every one of us has more than a few.

It like one of those things quarterbacks wear to remember the plays.
Maynard probably has the set list on there, what city he's in, opening band (if any), spreadsheet on the odds of the latest MMA fight, ongoing grocery list, hidden shank, etc.

(if I was any good at photoshop I would have altered this photo to match my list!)
