I'm pretty sure they were literally just the sounds his son was making when he was hitting the drums.

Nah, there were some samples from one of the Mandala pads. As I said it was nothing insightful though, and while I couldn't link the samples to any particular Tool song, I expect there are many "sounds" that kit could make I wouldn't immediately identify.

Maynard was wrong. His contribution doesn't matter. Three members of tool will hopefully work on their music & release something wonderful

A great album doesn't need vocals. Certainly not forced, rehashed bullshit like the last couple albums we've had.

TLDR, catch the end, his contribution to Lateralus was superfluous & the number only meant anything to the musicians

Dickhead could do better.. Still trying to play it all off as a joke. Side-step any responsibility. Watching Maynard backtrack his own lyrics is uncomfortable to say the least

Not how I took that discussion at all. Not sure how you could but... that's the beauty of perception.

Also, "I could do better" is the main take away there, and he's just trying to be humble in the face of someone basically standing in, and stating their awe at something he's done. He has never been comfortable with this things. No hay to be made here.

I think you're being overly harsh on Maynard. My take on what he's saying is that it's not supposed to have some deep spiritual meaning like some Tool fans make it out to be. It's just some words about stuff.

Tool will be in France next summer. I would imagine this would tie into a small European tour. Seems like an expensive trip for a single festival show.

I bet they play the other big festivals as well, Rock Ann rin, the big one in Poland, etc. if they play primavera it would be a good reason the spend a week in Barcelona.

That looks like a fun Festival. Isn't it a little early for this to be announced tho?

Way too early. Festivals don't release lineups 9 months in advance.

Actually I've seen European festivals announce lineups pretty far in advance, so not super shocked.

Still, there's nothing to suggest it's legit at this stage. I wouldn't rule out Euro dates in 2018, but seems a little unlikely to me at this stage.

Got a question for you guys.

So if I am correct, Tool signed a record deal to release 5 full length albums.

Opiate doesn't count because it's an EP.
1. Undertow
2. AEnima
Salival
3. Lateralus
4. 10,000 Days

We refer to the new album as Tool V because it's the final album in their contract. I've heard people mention that they could just release a Greatest Hits album to fulfill the deal, but if that's the case then why doesn't Salival count towards the full album count? Is it referred to as an EP?

Salival was a limited release so it doesn't qualify.

As to why it doesn't qualify the simplest answer is money. Greatest Hits sell really well* and things like Salival do not.

*The second and third best selling albums are Greatest Hits by The Eagles and Billy Joel respectively.

A lot of people talk about Tool's record deal being X albums, but I'm not sure on what evidence they base this on.

didn't maynard on his recent joe rogan talk actually confirm that tool has one record left to fulfill their contract?

Jump to 1:16:50 for that confirmation.

It's been stated multiple ways & old news they are contractually obligated to release another album.

Why on earth a band like tool would comply at this point agitates me, but it's all $$$. Also continually working towards, in light of recent (years) litigation.

All the legal BS the only reason they're still working on it? Most certainly not. But said reason they're still... steadily trudging along? Probably

If it’s true it’s not “at this point”, unless I missed something they signed their last contract back in 2000.

I actually think they signed their last contract in '92. I don't think there was another contract, from what I understand they were just still being held to the one they signed originally.

Adam just posted on ig something about a word of the day and hashtagged it with “rehearsal”.

Huh?

Rehearsal doesn't imply anything other than that they're in the loft playing music (which they do quite regularly I expect)
