Maynard James Keenan

Does any Tool fan really think he's in love with this band?

Does any Tool fan not realise he joined this band to pay the rent?

Does any Tool fan realise he never grew up with this whole down tuned guitar nirvana generation and he actually grabbed onto a fad?

He's an artist and he chose his palate, that being alt-rock.

He stuck his claim to a band of talented musicians and a part time guitarist who kinda owned the band and was lucky he didn't stick with Hollywood.

Before this he was a fan of Devo and Kiss.

Now he uses his fame to sell good wine and travel with a mediocre band.

All hail May May.

Not sure what to make of the post. You don't really raise any interesting points.
Does any Tool fan really think he's in love with this band?
Why would any Tool fan presume they know how Maynard feels about Tool?
Does any Tool fan not realise he joined this band to pay the rent?
Most Tool fans would recognise that this is likely one of the reasons he joined a band, but probably not the only one. I think very few join a band genuinely expecting it to earn money.

I don't think it surprises anyone that Tool sound like a 90s band. It's hard to argue that from Aenima onwards they were just another fad grunge band though.
He stuck his claim to a band of talented musicians and a part time guitarist who kinda owned the band and was lucky he didn't stick with Hollywood.
Maynard is probably the most talented member of the band behind Danny. In my opinion Aenima is the best performance from a vocalist in a rock band in the 90s. People seem to forget this when they are quick to judge him on his current vocal ability.
Before this he was a fan of Devo and Kiss.
So were many other members of 90s rock band.
Now he uses his fame to sell good wine and travel with a mediocre band.
What he does in his spare time really shouldn't concern most Tool fans (though it does seem to bother many).

Don't know, don't care. All I know is that he could've left them a long time ago and still been just fine. But he didn't. Whatevs.

I think he takes the work seriously when in the act of creating it.

I don't think he likes the idea of being a musician and all the connotations attached to that. He seems like less of a dick head now than in the past to me, but less interested in music.

If he is less interested in music why does PUSCIFER exist?

This could quite possibly be the greatest ever Tool related thread on any board ever.

<begins written personal evaluation of Maynard James Keenan>

<mentally undresses the asian girl who works in the office next door>

Thank you, Hellboy. Get over his personal life. However it's worked out, the band is still together 20+ years later and we can expect new music again someday. That's all that matters. Mayjay wins.

Just trying to awaken Tool fans he's never created a genre, he lived within one.

The band created whatever genre it is... not Mayjay... so you are correct there. But if you're trying to say Tool didn't create their own sort of genre, what genre is it? What genre is Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,000 days residing in? Just out of curiosity. Enlighten me. Prog metal? Eh... sorta... but I don't think Stinkfist, Disposition, and Intention really feel like prog metal. Grunge? Hmmm, Third Eye, Reflection, and Wings don't really feel like grunge music. Since Tool there have been some more of these Pink Floyd metal bands but I don't really think it was happening until Tool came out (if I'm wrong then someone please tell me what music I've been missing out on!). Now you have Porcupine Tree, Indukti, etc.
