my dad's 70 and the first time he heard the song Lateralus in my car was when I drove him to a family party recently. through the years I've made him mix CD's with Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots etc. he's been listening to Tool songs since the early 90's and he loves the 90's rock music but can't really distinguish Tool from APC or Puscifer. so I would say he's a non-Tool fan. he's a singer so he knows Maynard when he hears him. he's been in a hundred bands since he was 14, everything from doo wop to prog. he sings operatic acappella, whatever the situation calls for after too much wine lol.

after Lateralus ended he just looked at me with eyes wide. I think his exact words were "wow, great syncopation, is this new?" I said "nah man they released this song over a decade ago, new album is 8+ years in the making". "good bass, great drummer. takes a very long time to write a song like that". daddy oh, you have no idea lol.
