I'm sure people will always look at Playboy so long as it's in publication. I'm sure after ol' Hef dies it'll go downhill more than it has in recent years. Though the articles and models have degraded over the years, I do enjoy the interviews. I always find it funny how fucked up people are in the advisory section too.

Re: the Opiate Anniversary release...  Again, I am underwhelmed so far.  Curious but not even thinking about a purchase at this point.  Like many, I would be pleasantly surprised with anything other than a simple re-release with the already discussed new artwork.  Meh indeed.

Well, it looks like it is definitely Opiate. You can barely make out the word in the picture.

 

BUT, I'm going to be a jackass and believe that this Anniversary release is just a way to get off the hook with the record label, so they can release the NEW shit under their own circumstances.

 

So yes, this jackass is still hoping for the new album release right around the corner. sigh.

It just dawned on me that if there was going to be previously unreleased songs on this they probably would've leaked by now, so that possibility just got even smaller.

I wouldn't go that far.  With the exception of Salival Tool haven't really released any b-sides at all.  Not saying there will be such a thing, but my understanding is that there definitely would be recorded material that has remained unreleased.  Whether or not this would be appropriate for Opiate, I don't know.

I don't know much about contracts with the record company etc. But I doubt a re-release with only 5,000 copies would fulfill their contract

Ah ok, didn't see/read his post.  You are correct, it would be the worlds dumbest record executive that would agree to this limited release taking the place of a full blown Tool album, unless Tool are set to break up.

The Tool logo on the cover appears to be the version from Opiate, as opposed to the newer linked-letter version. Nice touch.

seeing that im looking forward to it - totally reckon its Salival 2. Just needs the sticker on the cover saying "new album out later this year..."

Can this release (in addition to being "Opiate" vinyl with some new art) be a follow up to "Salival"? Coming with studio recorded (or live recorded) versions of songs that do not appear on "Opiate", maybe the "Schism" and "Stinkfist" extended versions they play live? Kinda of how they gave us "Pushit" on "Salival"? That would be sweet. I'd say decent odds are a 10-1 shot on there being at least one major twist with this "Opiate" anniversary release, possibly a studio recorded cover song? "Keep in mind, this is not a cover (not the rumored “Crazy Train”), nor is it a glorified segue that never made it onto a record." "Crazy Train" would fit, or maybe how they always used to tease "Rush" covers live? 10-1 sounds about right. Or it could be a 20-1 long shot of...."...this is an original full-blown Tool song complete with vocals and lyrics. The title of this tune is “Problem 8 (The Riemann Hypothesis)”, and it was recorded many years ago – so long ago, in fact, that I don’t remember who played bass, although I want to say it was Justin. I've heard this theory mentioned before, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Problem 8 appeared on it. 

I think I've bit my tongue long enough with my change of heart with regard to this release:

I don't have a problem with this anymore. People want it, people will buy it, people will be happy. So go nuts.

Do I think it's a little weak? Yeah. Does it impact me as a fan? Not really. If they dress this up nicely, and make it worth your money, AND you can really justify buying it - then, so be it.

I can't see how this would've got in the way of them writing the new album. So, again - go nuts.

I, for one, would never, ever, ever, ever, buy it.

This sounds highly possibly.  It a makes all those newsletters about that song make a lot of sense. I don't think Blair would have mentioned the song exsisting then show pics of it on the dry erase board in the loft for no reason.

Of course you are free to call whatever you like good sir.  You would be wrong in this instance.  A live Tool album no longer interests me.  Fuck a live DVD doesn't even interest me.  I have been to enough Tool concerts, really don't need a live DVD full of songs I have already seen performed in person.  A new album is my only concern as it relates to Tool.  And I won't be running to the store cash in hand on the day of release either.  I am definitely going to wait until some of my buddies have listened to it.  If the album isn't excellent I am not giving them a cent.
