He meant you are now in the position to just not buy one.

You have a really good attitude, by the way. I think I and some other members here could learn something from this.

That's precisely what I meant.

And while it's hard not to be cynical regarding there being extras, I tend to agree with Bogart that if there were any extras I'm sure they would have given him one.  That said, I have no doubt there's some sitting around at the warehouse, saved for other purposes (probably for various ticks & leeches) and expect there's a good chance on will be made available for Bogart once the storm has died down a little.

For those that have the copies... I am starting to believe I am a bit color blind (not really). I bought the set and I am not opening them. I can't tell which is which based solely on the cover. I think I have it down but would like if somebody could clarify...

Version 1 - Silver

Version 2 - Blue

Version 3 - Purple

Version 4 - Copper

Version 5 - Dull Bronze

Anybody?

I'd say you're on point, but I would call V5 more of a green.

Source: I'm looking at it right now.

I can tell what colors they are by looking at them but from what I think is version 1 and 5, matching up with the original pictures on the website I'm not 100% sure. There is no markings on the outside.

Well then, yeah. Pics might allow us to assist you. But V1 is definitely silver and V5 is definitely green.

I think there are extra copies to make up for mistakes and items that get damaged in shipping. Tool cs said they would send me a prepaid label to ship it back and once it was scanned in transit they would ship me a replacement.

Obviously there are still some around.

Personally I am hoping I can just get my copsigned by Adam and maybe a doodle for the trouble.

Not that anybody is interested with the music on the CD, but I listened to the new Opiate back to back this evening with the OG Opiate. On a nice aftermarket car stereo system with a small amplified sub and speakers. I made sure to use the same volume and EQ settings. It is very clear to me that something sonically has been done to the new Opiate CD. In comparison the OG sounds thin and without any detail to the drums and even Adam's guitar. The new Opiate sounds much more three dimensional and with a lot more clarity in each instrument including vocals and even the crowd noise. But then who cares about the music when this package came with so many awesome stickers!

TA presale.  #5 when it came back after it went away.  Still waiting for delivery here.  Must mean I won.  I will confirm later.

I can('t) believe the complaining here.

If you purchased it through the ToolBand webstore you should be able to go into your account and look at your orders, which will take you into the photos. The photos are actually in 4E somewhere in a thread.

Very interesting.  I'm still waiting to get my buddy's copy.  He's cool with me checking it out, so I will try to validate your test for myself.  And then rip it of course.

You really need to do this test "blind". Any way you can manage that? I'm very interested to see if there's any difference, because if there is, I would've assumed that that would've been mentioned as part of the selling point.

I know there's a blind test plugin for Foobar, so I'll give that a go when I get my copy.

Wow, really? That's the only music player I use, and I've never heard of that.

Awesome.

Mainly used to compare between say FLAC and mp3, but should do the job for comparing opiates.

Agreed

This would have been the biggest selling point to many.I can't wait to get mine to check this out.Of course I will have to also get a copy of the original to compare.

I haven't kept up with recording technology, but I suppose minor enhancements could be made digitally before burning discs, without requiring actual remastering in the traditional way.

I got to open my Opiate last night! It arrived on Thursday, but I don't live with my Dad. 0275/1000 for #5, TA presale. I am very happy about it, I don't know that I'll ever find something I like enough to put these stickers on, though. My guitar case has one of my TA stickers, the other one and patch will remain in their white envelope until something worthy of stickers comes along

I seem to have bad luck when it comes to Danny Carey's signature--the first half of my January 2012 Dallas poster set is signed, and it seems his pen was running out of ink at that point. Similar situation with the Opiate packaging, but hey, still better than not receiving Adam's entirely. I feel for y'all and hope it is resolved quickly, or if not, that you get a doodle or two as consolation!

Breathe in Union.

Anyone who's received their copy yet care to put up some hi-res artwork scans for us (me)?

My guess is the new design on the cd is playing tricks on those who think it sounds better.

Adam made it a point to say in a couple of those interviews that there was no difference in the sound quality.

And we should always trust what Adam says implicitly, gotcha!

But seriously, that's what I inferred from his statements as well, which is why this intrigues me.  Would be very cool if they did enhance it in some way, looking forward to hearing it for myself.

@ Crow - I can inlist the help of a friend to make it a blind test.  I'll try both the original discs (old and new) in my stereo and then rip both my original and new disc identically (same engine, same settings) and try it on my computer system speakers.  Hopefully others will read this and give it a shot too.

I just think that knowing how much they were gonna charge for it, and how this would have been THE biggest selling point for a big chunk (if not the majority) of people, he would have mentioned it.  It's not like he's responding to another "how's the new album coming along?" question.

Plus, they could have easily charged 200$ with the added selling point of "improved sound quality".

Or maybe it is improved and that's what he meant by this "is for the fans".

After by doing a comparison test, I have come to the unpopular conclusion that the new Opiate CD has superior sound quality to the OG.

The drums sound better, and what sticks out the most is that the bass is not so muddled with the drums in the low end. The bass frequencies are much more clearer and have their own space in the mix compared to the others. Also, it is very noticeable that the overall treble is higher on the new CD than the older one, providing a much more cleaner sound.

As far as the live tracks, to my personally they as well sound different, and almost don't have that 'live' sound. There is a sense of warmth added to the live tracks, again with the drums sounding much more heavier and prominent. All other frequencies sound really balanced.Â
