Maynard has announced that there will be a Puscifer remix album All Re-Mixed Up out in August this year, which will contain tracks from the Conditions of My Parole album worked over by a bunch of his buddies:



All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts. For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of ‘Telling Ghosts.’ Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to ‘now write the other half.’ It’s extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present.

It contains the usual selection of Puscifer buddies, but it's interesting to see Sir Mix-A-Lot lending his talents to the album. Album will be out August 27 at the usual outlets.

Won't make any difference to the overall timeline. I can't see them touring off the back of the album, I imagine it's been in the works for months. Not to mention that fact that as a remix album I don't expect MJK had much to do with it at all...

Awesome. V is for Viagra was pretty great, and I just imagine this being even better.

 

I'm excited to hear a lot of those remixes, most of those artists are great.

 

I'm sure people will bitch about this, but like hellboy said, I'm sure Maynard didn't devote too much of his precious time to this.

The May May & Sir Mix-A-Lot link is probably because they are both mutual friends of Tim and Eric

 

Actually looking forward to this. Something tells me "Donkey Punch the Night" bombed, but regardless always like to see a release with more tracks like this.
Reminds me of the NIN remix albums at first glance... which were all pretty great. Still wonder why TR and MJK never had a truly successful collaboration and if they ever will. If not, it would just be a little sad that two visionaries running parallel courses never released something together.

Puscifer will have at least 20 albums before we see any new TOOL.

the name reminds me too much the The Cure 'Mixed up' album from 1990. if any older people are around or just cure fans in general. and being i dont care for puscifer that much at all i think the cures remix album will always kill this one! (its a great wack of tunes on that if u like the cure and havent heard it)

That was one of those rare remix albums in that it was actually good.

Really?

Maybe I interpret remix albums the wrong way, but I always thought the very concept of remixes is that they were pretty much hands off for the original artist.

Yes...what I was bringing attention to is the artist still having a final say regarding what is released officially.

In that, the person would still have ultimate control as to how their art is interpreted, at least in its public awareness.  

Never been a fan of Puscifer remixes...I'm expecting this to tank hardcore.

I'm sure as Hell not going to listen to it. Big fan of PUSCIFER's work (in general), but I have an incredibly low tolerance for remixes (with the exception of special cases).

 

I have to admit I'm a big fan of Supersexy Swingin' Sounds

The last remix album was awful. That being said I'll give this one an honest listen and hope for the best. If it sucks oh well no big deal its a remix album.

in the actual production of the songs themselves, yes, that aspect is mostly hands off. the time comes in when you consider choosing artists to remix. tracks that you will allow to be remixed. track order. final production and mastering, album artwork etc.  MJK doesnt have anything else to do, though. so why not put out some garbage album when you know at least a few people will buy on your name alone.


Since you're so insistent that I'm "ignoring" you post, here's a response:

Choosing artists to remix: Have your manager contact a bunch of people you've worked with in the past.  Wait and see who comes back and says they're interested. Maybe an hour.

Track order: turns out it's the same as the album, so maybe 30 minutes spent.

Final production and mastering: mainly done by those with skills in that area, but MJK probably listens to the album a couple of times to ensure it doesn't sound like balls.  Let's say 3 hours.

Album artwork: Approving photoshop done by a friend of his for the album cover, and then approving the final artwork created by whoever the hell did it.  Let's say 2 hours.

I concede your original point though.  Perhaps he spent 2 days working on this instead of 1.

The end result being that this has 0 effect on the Tool album, if they're even ready for him (I have a hunch that he has at least started to add his two cents though, based on absolutely no evidence. Just a hunch.)

I bet he's at least been singing in his truck along to a few Tool demos
