This new APC stuff has me confused. There are pieces there of the APC I love, but then there are these Depeche Mode moments that I don't enjoy at all. Curious to hear the entire album. Feel like it will take some time to grow on me. Plus I can't lie it is hard to get super excited for APC right now when I know there is new Tool music ready for lyrics.

I certainly don't dislike what I've heard so far, but none if it is great enough to get all that excited about. I'm certainly keen for the album, but have somewhat low expectations at the moment.

I agree with all of this. The new APC songs are pretty bad, and Maynard's contribution is probably the worst part of it. As much as I am concerned about Maynard's output quality moving forward, I have complete respect for his commitment to his endeavors and projects.

I still believe that there were maybe 2 or 3 songs that weren't done that are now ready for lyrics. Most of the music was already finished. It's not like they just dropped 90 minutes of music on his lap and said "Here you go."

Sounds like the (almost) original lineup of Smashing Pumpkins is back together, and recording. I wonder what this means for Iha's involvement in APC:

Was Iha ever with them in the studio? I could’ve sworn he’s only been part of the live band.

Good question - I'm not sure. My expectation was that he'd be on the new album.

But if he's touring with the Pumpkins, that'll impact his APC commitments as well

Fuck, Emotive 2 is sounding more and more like an accurate prediction.

Still interested in hearing the finished work.

Interestingly enough, the vinyl presale includes presale access to a concert in Birmingham, AL that does not appear to be announced. (close enough to Louisiana to make it reasonable for me)

I wonder if they may squeeze in a few more dates.

From the Rolling Stone article: "The group has released two songs from the album so far, the relaxed "Disillusioned" (seemingly about a society that's gotten lost in its own self-interest) and "The Doomed" (a more upbeat song with lyrics about survival of the fittest)."

I guess that's one way to interpret it.

*edit: Also, that entire article is really worth a read.

I thought it was just an unfortunate promo image, but if that's the actual album artwork...agreed.

The Rolling Stone article was a really good read. I laughed out loud reading the last two questions and how Maynard answered them. I only laugh because I know Tool has songs now and an album will be out within a year or two. I really respect that Maynard gives no fucks and doesn’t asnwer a Tool question on an APC article. Less hype for APC if he did give an answer.

I of course will be buying the new album and maybe even get the vinyl because I love vinyl so much, but I don’t really have high hopes for the album. Glad to hear that Hourglass and Feathers got tweaked a little bit from the live versions, so maybe I will enjoy those a little bit more. I already bought Disillusioned and The Doomed and I do actually enjoy those and have listened to them many times. Talk Talk seems like an interesting track and just listened to half of it this morning and think it will grow on me after many listens. I actually like what I read in the article that they are just trying to be themselves in the now and not trying to rehash old material. I love the older material so much and of course would like to hear more of that kind of sound, but that’s not their style anymore.

Again, I think I said this about another record in another thread, but the music is done, we live in a digital world, and so why is Eat the Elephant not coming out till 4/20? I will gladly give you my money APC to download it right now since it is all complete. Why the long wait? I just heard that Best Buy is stopping sales of CD’s this summer. Unrelated, but crazy!! Ha

In that Joe Rogan interview , Maynard mentioned that Fall and Spring are the best times to release an album from a business point of view so I'm guessing that might be a big reason for delay of release mate..

EDIT: yep great read on that rolling stones link. I understand the temptation to ask Maynard about Tool but seriously.. he's trying to plug a new APC album. Why would he talk about Tool. Silly question mate.

A Perfect Circle - "TalkTalk"

You’re waiting
On miracles
We're bleeding out
Thoughts
And prayers
Adorable
Like cake in a crisis
We’re bleeding out
While you deliberate
Bodies accumulate

Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walking like Jesus
Sit and talk like Jesus
Talk like Jesus
Talk, talk, talk, talk,
Get the fuck out of my way

Don’t be the problem be the solution
Don’t be the problem be the solution
Don’t be the problem be the solution
Problem, problem, problem, problem

Faith without works is
Talk without works is
Faith without works is
Dead, dead, dead, dead

Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walking like Jesus
Sit and talk like Jesus
Try walking like Jesus

Try braving the rain
Try lifting the stone
Try extending a hand
Try walking your talk
Or get the fuck out of my way

Will be interesting to see if it's been reworked in any way and for those who never picked up 360 I imagine it'll be nice to have.

Another Emotive-esque song. Just not interested at all. Concerned that this being released in April will hold up any chance of Tool being released in the Fall. I don't know why Adam, Justin and Danny just don't go in the studio and starting tracking most of the music now and then Maynard can jump last minute and they can track the lyrics get the shit out for mastering in the summer. They don't need Maynard around for the tracks. Musically I don't think anything these guys have come up with is getting changed, so I don't see why it would cause a delay. Maynard will probably be less involved in this album than any, which is fine by me.

Anyway it is what it is. Bottom line the new APC songs do nothing for me. I hate Hourglass, Disillusioned mostly bores me, and this new one is another sleeper. Doomed is okay, Feathers is okay, but this is not Mer de Noms or Thirteenth Step APC level shit. Super happy for hardcore APC fans that you are getting new tunes. But wake me up in the Fall when Tool is HOPEFULLY actually tracking in the studio.
