I'll be amazed if it's anywhere near as good as Thirteenth Step, but will give it a listen over the weekend and post a review.

I'd say it's very much in the Conditions vein, but a bit more cohesive. An overall gloomy, repetitive sound. First song to catch my attention was Simultaneous, enjoyed that one, & Remedy as well. It's a fairly short record, nothing too remarkable, but a few interesting bits. Fits in well with the rest of the catalogue. & as for Thirteenth Step, I'm not sure where you're hearing that at all. The Arsonist reminded me a bit of By & Down, that's about it.

Overall I think 'Money Shot' is a bit somber: melancholic even (more thoughtful & introspective opposed to sad & hopeless). I'd say the songs are also a bit more eclectic than CoMP as well.

I've listened to it twice now, and can't say there's a central theme. Not that it matters, because I think the songs are pretty great individually.

I hadn't planned on seeing them this tour, but hearing the album has actually prompted me to pick up tickets.

(btw - Pandora sucks)

I'm thinking in the vein of "The Noose" and "Gravity." I could make an argument for an outward-looking "The Outsider," too. But I won't lol

I think it has much more gravity than CoMP. I think it benefits from fewer chefs in the kitchen (from what we know at the moment) it sounds like it was almost all Matt Mitchell and Carina Round.

Why would they choose a streaming service that is only available in US, AUS and NZ?... that kinda ruins it for us Europeans...... ;) or am i missing something?

Any alternatives?

I would love to get a link or something :D

I kinda like the album but honestly, I don't really like his voice. The Remedy is my favorite so far and my least favorite is Simultaneous, I cringe when I hear it. Overall 5/10, so far. I hope it grows on me.

I bet it will. But I am underwhelmed as well right now. Seeing/hearing it live will be amazing regardless.

im slightly nervous to see Puscifer live next month knowing that it will be all new material. I really really enjoy the 'What Is...' DVD, so im going in expecting that type of performance, but its all new songs now so i wonder if i wont appreciate it as much as i would if i was seeing them a year after the record came out. Id have my favorite songs and know the words etc....

Liking this on a cursory first listen. Gives me Eno vibes - Warm Jets, Another Green World, Before and After Science.

MJK as this generation's Eno would be a good thing.

I hate "Simultaneous." It's such a vibe killer.

You know, I thought I'd find myself skipping the monologue but I'm not and that's weird.

Only problem is that eventually you will; spoken word/monologue stuff can only be heard so much I think. However, it's always worked with Mogwai's 'Punk Rock' track so maybe that'll apply here. Perhaps the alt version of 'Simultaneous' with Bauhaus' Daniel Ash will be more tune-based?

Interested to hear 'Flippant' too.

Instantly thought of Mogwai as soon as "Simultaneous" started, specifically "Repelish" from their most recent album 'Rave Tapes.' The track's alright, but I definitely don't enjoy the spoken word. It's a skipper these days.

Although, for the time being, I'm actually enjoying "Simultaneous."

I think the music builds well in the track. Especially towards the end when he mentions 3 people

Is it just me or does Maynard's voice sound really strange on that promo right at the beginning?

Just heard it and I agree. But I heard someone else's opening promo and it also sounded weird so it might just be Pandora.

Just got around to listening to the whole album, overall I thought it was very good. I enjoyed lots of Matt McJunkins basslines, and thought the overall tones were cool... Maybe I have just been strung-out and this is nice fix... Many of the lyrics appear to be aimed at an individual(s), using the word 'you' a lot, but I suppose that is the ambiguous open style of writing that has made MJK successful....

Sadly Pandora expects me to sign up to listen to more than one track, so I'll wait until this leaks.
