No dick picks on eBay. One of the scribbles is Nardo's fancy signature. Not just the M we get on the tool stuff.

I was at that San Antonio show, there was people in the parking lot selling that shirt.

So yea, definitely bootleg.

I'm impressed the bootleggers are starting to copy the red star on the sleeve.

I emailed the seller of the Tshirts and asked if they shirts were licensed. This is the response I received:

The bootleggers are getting better it seems at making the shirts look a litte more realistic...

Am I the only one who doesn't care if my shirt is a bootleg one or not? I bought the shirt to have a tool shirt.

Bootleg tshirts tend to be of lesser quality than the official shirts. Bootleg shirts fade quicker, rip and tear easier, and shrink many times over. I own plenty of "parking lot" tshirts from all types of events, never pay more than $5 a piece, yet they all have some sort of drawback. Why do I continue to buy them then? Well for $5 its ok imo. I would never pay anymore than that!

Caring and having the time/money/inclination to do anything about it are two different things. Chances are the band aren't even aware of this particular example.

True. For me the 'bootleg shirts' will do. They are only really bootlegs if the band in question sells 'real' shirts. Maybe I'm an ass. I dunno. I paid lots of money for albums and a concert ticket.

I always thought he opposite is true (depending on their record contract of course). I was always under the impression that ticket and merch sales were a bands biggest money making tools.

They might make more on merch and tickets PER SALE but the volume is way way less than albums. Overall they probably make more off album sales even if the percentage is less.

MJK said in an interview not that long ago that they had to sell about 1 million records to break even. I also believed he explained that the price increase in tickets (from about $30 now to $65/$70) came from lack of record sales, so the band had to pass the fee's onto the consumer somehow. It is of my personal belief that bands nowadays make most of their money from merchandise (shirts used to be $20-$25 now they are $45-$50) and live ticket sales. I believe MJK said something along the lines of "You can bootleg our album but you can't do that for our live experience". Of course he must have forgotten YouTube exists...

I personally don't mind purchasing shirts from bands merch table, although I am a huge sucker for tour dates on the back, and more recently I haven't seen many of those shirts for sale at various concerts I have attended over the last few months. Truth is, if the parking lot guys have shirts with tour dates on them I will buy them. If the merch table AND the parking lot guys both have shirts w tour dates on them, then I am most likely going to buy BOTH. Again, I usually wait until the parking lot guys seem desperate and never pay more than $5. I once got a TOOL parking lot shirt for $3!

Hard to tell. The signed salival that were sold on TA were dated with the year and he doodled on his page.

I'm a sucker for schminty original LP's and Undertow is a personal fav of the Tool catalog. Maybe overpaid a little but hard to find these in such good condition.
