My cousin's band Panteon. Him and the drummer started this band more than 20 years ago. They're from Brownsville, Tx, not exactly a warm and nurturing environment for Black Metal, but they somehow have a solid following.

Doubtful many here will be interested, but Leonard Cohen's latest album Popular Problems is streaming here:

Not sure how long it will be up. Dude just turned 80. Seen him live several times. He always has an excellent band and he's a character.

Plus, how often do I get to check out somebody much older than me? (Actually just saw Caetano Veloso last Friday and he's 72, Herbie Hancock not long ago - 74... never mind)

His range as a composer is limited; as he has noted, "People said I knew three chords when I knew five." His vocal range is even more limited. A fan got it exactly right when he said, "No one can sing a Leonard Cohen song the way Cohen himself can't." The dirge-like songs and midnight voice that result are an easy target for reviewers. He's "the poet laureate of pessimism." "The grocer of despair." "The godfather of gloom." "The prince of bummers." And, inevitably, "music to slit your wrists to."

Decided to listen to Audioslave again, since I haven't in many years. Totally forgot about this leaked demo from 2002. This is one that never made it on an album from that leak.

I know Audioslave was a failed experiment and many look down on it (driven by $, not creativity), but fuck it if Cornell didn't sound good, and these are classic (if a bit tired) RATM hooks.

They were fun to see live as well.

I never got to see them live, but aside from their last album (which was shit) I thought they were generally ok.
