Took a nice long walk with my boy today and listened to the whole thing while he listened to an audio book.  Dug most of it right off the bat.  I'm sure with a few more listens I'll come around on the rest.  My initial thought was that it was a bit more pop / commercial than I'm used to with Clutch, although it still jammed.  Anybody else?  There are some really outstanding tracks that I can't wait to see live.  I'm sure they won't play the slower track with the acoustic guitar, but I'd like to see them pull it off live.  Jean-Paul is so tasty all over this fucker, as usual.  Extremely tight throughout, also as usual.

And I'll be buying this without a doubt.  Would have bought it without hearing it first if I could have, but couldn't resist the leak this time.

- You like noisy music?
- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

@ Bogart - I am not surprised - glad you had a good show.  Seeing them on Tuesday here in SF.  Any opinions on the openers?

Halfway through album on first listen & digging the fuck out of it. Clutch have been a band I've never fully gotten into as much as I should, just digging the odd song here n there, but really enjoying every song on here.. Currently on "gone cold'.. Right uup my alley kinda song..

And Pete, feel free to swing us one of dem Coopers shirts thanks mate, if ya haven't noticed from my Facey pics, is pretty much my blood type..

All things considered, Clutch could drop a turd that sounds better than 90% of music.  That said, I'm not blown away with this record, but as usual it is a solid effort.  I think the "pop" aspect Kittaan mentioned, on this one, as opposed to previous offerings, comes from the straight-forward approach of this record.  The blues influence is still highly recognizable, but it's "louder", if that makes sense.  The drumming is also superb and worth mention. It sits absolutely perfect in the mix.  Said mix, also aiding a bit to the poppier tone of the record in my opinion.  Neil's lyrics remain awesome as always. This record still owns the Clutch sound and will fit in quite well with their catalog in the live setting, but it's certainly no Blast Tyrant or Robot Hive, but I still enjoyed it on my first few listens.

Didn't really get a chance to see them really. I was across the street drinking and then got there during Orangle Goblin I believe? The lead singer looks like a fucking giant mountain man; I could have the wrong band. They were pretty decent though.

Shit, I totally forgot to post after this show.

Ha!  No, you got it right.  After checking some clips of the openers, we opted to get there late.  Showed up for the end of Orange Goblin too.  Caught about 4 songs.  Very predictable cock rock kinda shit.  I was not into it.

The sound at the Regency can be excellent, and usually is, so I don't know what happened with Clutch this time.  Very muddy and inconsistent.  Nowhere near as bad as the second Soundgarden show I saw recently though.  Still had a great time, and Clutch killed it performance wise.  They probably played 6 of 11 tunes off the new album, so we didn't get many of my favorite classics.  The new stuff sounded even better live, as I figured it would.  Big surprise that they played Gone Cold live!  I mentioned earlier in this thread that I doubted they would.  Turned out to be one of the highlights.  Hope they come back sooner than later.  And with fewer opening bands so we get a little longer set.

Nobody else on here caught this tour!?!?  Kat?

EDIT: Ah, no wonder - just checked the dates, and we were pretty early on the schedule.

That'd be a shame, because everyone I've spoken to said that Orange Goblin were excellent live.  I'd definitely see them.

I'm seeing them next week.

Probably check out Orange Goblin as well.  One of their albums was recommended on Amazon, and the samples sounded interesting.

All I can say is that was my impression after 4 songs.  Uninspired, derivative... They sounded a little better on recorded material, so it may have been the aforementioned sound issues at the venue contributed to the impression.  Needless to say: Everyone should form their own opinion.  Interested to hear what others think of them.

Why, so I can suffer through some crap opener like you did?  That is alright, I'll pass.

saw them in Seattle on the 29th. Flew in from Anchorage to watch them (which I usually have to do because we get a decent concert once every 6 months). Show was awesome! Was at a small venue, the showbox. Played old songs, newer songs, and 3 or 4 brand new songs including "Earth Rocker" and my favorite one from the new album "D.C. Sound Attack". Neil Fallon even broke out the cowbell for the solo in the song.  So it was a good show and the new album is killer.

I wonder what show I will fly 2000 miles for next?  I do have an emergency TOOL account set aside (1,000$) incase a show pops up in Seattle or Bay area, but besides them I think Deftones will have to be the next band I travel to go see. There on my bucket list and doubt they will ever come to Anchorage.

Bummed that the closest they're coming to me is Sac.  Too far unless I can work it out closer to Nov.  Anybody been to the Ace Of Spades in Sacramento?  Good venue?

Just picked up tickets to the double header in NC. Should be an awesome two nights!

Funny enough the presale special for both nights was $60 through that link above. I went directly to the venue website and found a 2 night pass for $47.25!

Just got this email... bummer! Was looking forward to these shows.

Hello Clutch Fans

Maryland rockers CLUTCH have been forced to postpone the September tour dates of the "Earth Rocker" North American Tour. This is due to a health issue with singer Neil Fallon. Tickets already purchased for the dates in September will be honored for the rescheduled dates in January.

CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon gave an update on his condition:

"Dear friends, this week I've learned that a childhood injury to the neck, a genetic predisposition for spinal disease, and 20 some years of head banging will exact a toll. I've been diagnosed with an ugly case of cervical spinal stenosis and two herniated discs."
