PEARL JAM Thread . . .

Post by The Boss »

[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]

It has come to my attention that this band has been derided unfairly.

While they never achieved the heady success and adoration as the creatively gifted KISS, they are still worthy of respect.

I offer their unplugged set from back in the day. Enjoy.
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

"State Of Love And Trust" is fucking God-tier. Even the most jaded of grunge-haters should be able to rock out HARD to that track.

Seen them live twice, quality shows both times. I even like a couple of their more recent records.

I wouldn't go so far as to put them in my top 10 or anything, but I have no real issue with Peej

On top of that, they're almost a model for how a band should interact with their fan base. Without wanting to turn this into yet another Tool bashing thread, they could do with following some of Pearl Jams examples:
  • Fan club sales, both tickets and other stuff
  • 3 hour long sets
  • Setlists that change considerably

Yeah I don't like their music but fuck me they love their fans.

When I see their or The Cure's set lists and run times I wanna cry.

Not to mention the movie/documentary is pretty kickass

Three hours?! Holy fuck.

I've never understood the hate that this band gets. Ever since "YIELD", they've sucked - but their albums before that one more than make up for it.

I could happily listen to PEARL JAM for days and not get bored. People who hate on them just don't appreciate decent rock music.

Word. If there's any justice in this world, I'll see THE CURE before I die.

And it'll be, like, five hours of love.

I don't hate them. Just disappointed that they never put out another album as solid and consistent as 10. And most of their material bores the shit out of me. Loved them live in the 90s though.

Such a valid point. "TEN" and "VS" were unreal.

I GOT "VITALOGY", but I fear that I was the only one who got that it was a Cobain tribute.

That probably contributed to why I didn't like it as much as everyone else.

They're so good, especially their early stuff (Ten, Vs., State of Love and Trust, Yellow Ledbetter, etc.). STILL very good live. I don't really seek them out or actively listen anymore, but you can't hate on Pearl Jam. If you feel the urge, watch the EXCELLENT PJ20 documentary and then you should at least understand why they're beyond deserving of respect and loved by so many people.

As a side note: that Singles soundtrack. Still so good. Ditto the movie.

At least they typically change up their set-lits on a night-to-night basis and rotate songs in and out of the aforementioned set lists.

Plus they're pretty good too. So they got that going for 'em.

There's a lot of sap there, but I do love both.

Totally. Context is always important and not to be discounted though. It's a very 90s movie, but it's also meant to be.

I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago, and I fucking hated it. The two main characters were fucking worthless. Everyone else was cool.

I nearly bought the soundtrack a few years ago, until I realised I had all the songs on different albums already. LOL.

Thought Singles was a pretty boring movie personally. Soundtrack was ok.

"OK"? Seriously?

It's widely considered one of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

Yep, that doesn't change my opinion of it though. There's only a couple of tracks on it I'd consider great. Judgement Night was a much better soundtrack album.

Fair enough. I guess if we were all the same, the world would be pretty boring, huh.

Unless everyone was like me. Then that would be fantastic.

My tongue was firmly in cheek.

Once gets my vote.
