No Big Day Out 2015?

The Big Day Festival has been a staple of Australia’s music scene for more than 20 years, with annual shows in five Australian cities and Auckland, New Zealand. Now, the event’s promoter has announced the 2015 event will not be held, but left the door open for its resumption in 2016.

The American-based promoter issued this statement to Faster Louder: “C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world. While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015. We love working on BDO and are excited about the future.”

C3 Presents is based in Austin, Texas and are the third largest concert promoter in the U.S. They produce events including Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the 2014 edition of Big Day Out, which featured bands such as Pearl Jam and Deftones, “was something of a disaster this year, with reports of reduced crowds, allegations of unpaid debts to contractors and rumours the event lost between $9 and $12 million.”

Over the years a lot of big name bands have played Big Day Out, such as Nirvana, Metallica, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Rammstein.

Tool sure seems to have a lot of extra BDO posters if that is any indication.

I wonder how 'weighted' 'projected poster sales' would be as an 'indicator' of 'sheer number' of 'potential customers?'

The brand is dead. The BDO used to be the only pony show in town, now we have similar festivals for metal/punk and EDM.

No need for a catch all festival anymore.

Bring back Harvest!

When I read this sentence in my head it sounds like William Shatner speaking. That is all.

^I hadn't thought of Shatner. Then again, I'm not the reader.
Usually with the quote thing
I'm thinking Farley.

It's a shame that it's gone, but I have no doubt it'll be back eventually. If nothing else it makes it easier to not overspend on festival tickets during summer

Huh. I've only been to one, and that was because every single BDO after it had a sucky line-up. To me, anyway.

Or I wasn't in the fucking country. :x

I'm going to rape this city come summer festival time.

First real summer in the West in the past seven years? Nigger please.

Do they even have festivals in NZ any more?> They appear to be a dieing breed over there.

I'm looking forward to the next festival season. With Faith No More on the move, my expectations are high for Soundwave.

Sure they do!

I'd give blood to see SECRET CHIEFS 3 again. I guess I could do FAITH NO MORE as well, but in terms of related bands, SC3 are almost magical.

Probably the best show I've ever seen. And yes, I've seen TOOL twice.

Hmmm? What do you mean?

*sigh*

Let me re-word:

"I'm going to really enjoy Auckland when it's summer; because apparently it's nothing but bands every week for, like, four months. Not to mention the decent festicals that will occur.

I haven't had a proper summer in the Wet whilst I have a real job for around seven years. This is just going to be awesome. Dark-skinned individual, accommodate."

Is this about my (failed) humourous attempt at using a popular and oft-used phrase in post-modern casual slang?

If so, if it's OK by Hellboi, it should be OK for you.

I'd love to tack-on a few other thoughts that are on my mind and tip of my tongue right now; BUT, this is positive week.

I'm sorry that YOU got offended. Enjoy your weekend.

I don't know, man. Given the chance and choice and reason, I'm one of the most positive and loving guys you'll ever find.

Now I'm just pissed off.

Catch y'all tomorrow. Unless I'm banned, because someone CHOSE to be offended by something so completely miniscule and stupid that you'd actually have to go out of your way to look for it and make a big deal out of it.

Fucking Christ.

I'm somewhat ok with the post. I'm not really ok with the concept that "nigger" is an appropriate word in a conversation, but in this case was willing to let it slide. It would make me happy to see it used less.

Could be right.

Tough crowd, man.

EDIT: What the fuck is your problem, man? Both Tyson and I have been paying attention to our shitty posting habits; and here you come to just fuck everything up.

GO FUCK YOURSELF.

EDIT 2: No problem, 'Boi. Duly noted.
