Classic Album Of The Week: The Police - Synchronicity

Post by ilikecheese »

An album I have loved since the first time I put it on the turntable.

The Police: Synchronicity

Of course we all know that Danny knows a good drummer when he jams with one and Copeland is no exception.
This album had the 'hits' sure, but it's the other songs I love the best - starting with track 2 - "Walking In Your Footsteps."
It reminds me now, as I type at the moment, of a young, "Intension."

Give it a listen if you're not familiar.

Hate to agree with you arsels, but yep. Classic Cheese.

Not only that, but a lot of fun to jam these tunes on the bass, especially with a good drummer. Simple but great grooves.

Excellent pick cheeser. Great album. Absolutely classic. Every Breath You Take is one of the best songs to come out of the 80s. Good shit Mr. Brie

I like the Police. I have fond memories of their older albums, but Synchronicity really does little for me. I'd go so far as to say it's my least favorite album of theirs. It's all a bit derivative 80s work for me, and I prefer their more straight forward rockier stuff on their first few albums.

I think it has one of the few Police songs that i could ever tolerate, "Wrapped Around Your Finger".

Never really liked or disliked the band. Their singles were ok but the non single album tracks were often bizarrely sub par IMO.

I'll give it a 5.3/10

^^ & ^ I totally see that too
I really love the early stuff and find it 'heavier' which is appealing to me
and probably prefer that as well.
I think the reason I chose this one over say Regatta de Blanc, however, is
coupled with the fact it has their biggest hits that are good songs to boot, I believe it's their last one too.
Given that, I think it was a fantastically popular album to leave off with, career-wise, but it also gives us an idea of where the band was headed musically (in the wrong direction, in my opinion). So I guess for those reasons at least anyway was why I leaned towards this record instead of the early stuff.

and yeah...to me, Wrapped Aound Your Finger reminds me of the Walking On The Moon groove, ya know?

There's really not much I can say about this album or this band. The Police has always been one of those bands that I don't necessarily dislike but I don't go out of my way to listen to them. This album is good but as it is with them, it doesn't really affect me either way.
