First shot from Rogue One. Cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

Image

I wonder if Mads is going to be Grand Moff Tarkin or something?

The 12 year old boy in me wants so badly to get excited over this. Problem is - the present day me just did a bunch of unspeakable things to the 12 year old in me and scared him off.

So....no can do.

I'm getting the impression of an OK movie, that people are going to love because it's not crap.

That's my take on it, as long as it's not as shit as EP1 or EP2 then I'll be happy.

It's relying too much on nostalgia factor. It'll be a so so movie that will be picked apart endlessly for the next 40 years.

Just be thankful though that it doesn't star any of the following:

Will Smith
Jaden Smith
Marky Mark
Mila Kunis
Harry Potter
Ryan Reynolds
Nicole Kidman
J Lo
Ben Affleck
Johnny Depp

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, we won't know until it's released. I certainly harbour concerns about employing ageing cast members.

Essential for gravitas, so it's inevitable. Not much of a problem if you're filming a set of movies within a tight timeframe, a la LOR, and releasing them in a trickle. Definitely a concern if it's spread over several years.

Gravitas and a sense of occasion. Those qualities that you and I bring to fourtheye. ;)

Can you imaging a teenage version of Star Wars?

Kathleen Kennedy did not hand the reigns to JJ Abrams to make an OK movie.

Harrison Ford is a pretty cynical dude, at Comic-Con he was brutally honest about how he felt initially towards doing this. after reading the script he was pleasantly surprised, so I'm taking his word for it. plus how many Academy Award/Golden Globe winners and nominees are adding their acting chops to this? a dozen or so I believe. I have to trust JJ when it comes to the newbees, the guy has an eye for young talent, that's for sure. plus ILM effects and Disney money make for a slam dunk when it comes to CGI. so a very good script, piggy backing an already great story, top notch talent (creature/make up effects and CGI), plus master craftsmen like Ford, Sydow, Serkis, Nyong'o, Christie and Isaac should make for a powerhouse of a movie. even casual movie goers should be very impressed by this movie. "Return Of The King" really had the same formula and that movie was most impressive. we will all be entertained to say the least.

They're bringing back Vader?

You know, just when I think this movie can't look any worse...

...it goes and does something like this...

...and COMPLETELY redeems itself.
Awesome.

To be honest that was one possibility I'd never considered. "Giggle".

This series of videos was really cool. I liked the Mark Hamill one as well as Ian Mcdiarmid (sans some of the vocal effects). Carrie Fishers voice freaked me out a little (sounded like my fkn mum...)... I am fkn hanging for the new films....

new Kylo Ren pic. nice.

Image

and this is from Empire Magazine as well...

From EmpireMagazine:

“Kylo Ren is not a Sith,” confirms JJ Abrams in the new issue of Empire. “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

Snoke, you will recall, is a performance-captured digital character played by Andy Serkis, who can be heard growling the voiceover on the first teaser. Aside from shedding a little light on Ren’s origins, Abrams gave some background on the state of the universe when The Force Awakens begins, including the origins of the First Order, who are not quite the Imperial remnant many had taken them to be.

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”
