Spiderman screwed Sony up too, twice. lol. so bad they scrapped the Sinister Six entire story-line and rented Spiderman to Disney to just be able to gas up their private jets.

they are in the red big time, don't try to argue facts fellas. just the two Spiderman flops, here ya go:

Spidey part 1
Box Office
Budget: $230,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend: $62,004,688 (USA) (6 July 2012)
Gross: $262,030,663 (USA) (12 October 2012)

and Spidey part 2
Box Office
Budget: $200,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend: $91,608,337 (USA) (2 May 2014)
Gross: $202,853,933 (USA) (15 August 2014)

here's a few more horrible showings from Sony:

Pixels
Box Office
Budget: $88,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend: $24,011,616 (USA) (24 July 2015)
Gross: $78,747,585 (USA) (6 November 2015)

The Walk
Box Office
Budget: $35,000,000 (estimated)

Opening Weekend: $70,403,148 (USA) (6 November 2015)
Gross: $199,885,471 (USA) (4 March 2016)

The 5th Wave

I imagine those movies made money in other countries though, enough I expect would have pushed them into the black.

No doubt Sony expected more though.

Most of the money that Hollywood movies make comes from foreign markets. The fact that every single one of those movies you quoted nearly earned backit's budget in America alone is proof enough that these movies were profitable, but if that's enough here are the real numbers.

The 5th Wave
Domestic: $33.6 million
Foreign: $70.3 million
Total: $103.9 million
Budget: $38 million
Profit: $65.9 million

Spectre
Domestic: $199.9 million
Foreign: $679.6 million
Total: $879.5 million
Budget: $245 million
Profit: $634.5 million

The Walk
Domestic: $10.1 million
Foreign: $50.4 million
Total: $60.5 million
Budget: $35 million
Profit: $25.5 million

Pixels
Domestic: $78.6 million
Foreign: $164.7 million
Total: $244.1 million
Budget: $38 million
Profit: $206.1 million

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Domestic: $202.8 million
Foreign: $505.8 million
Total: $708.6 million
Budget: $255 million
Profit: $453.6 million

The Amazing Spider-Man
Domestic: $262 million
Foreign: $495.9 million
Total: $757.9 million
Budget: $230 million
Profit: $527.9 million

I'm sure Sony's wallet is really hurting after those "bombs". Try arguing with those facts.

it's not an argument, can't argue with facts. here's a few of Sony getting annihilated by the other studios in North America:

2014:

2015:

http://www.statista.com/statistics/1871 ... rica-2010/

in case you were stuck on global here's some more facts for you 2015, operating at a loss:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/s ... ens-835365

or 2013, operating at a loss, bombs away:

http://nypost.com/2013/10/31/movie-bomb ... -for-sony/

CEO speaks on the 2014 fiscal year ending in a loss:

TOKYO — Sony Corp. president-CEO Kazuo Hirai announced at a strategy briefing Thursday that the troubled electronics giant intends to triple its operating profit to 400 billion yen ($3.95 billion) by the 2015 fiscal year ending in March 2016, while also unveiling a $300 million cut in the company’s beleaguered film division.

In November, the Michael Lynton-led Sony Pictures Entertainment said it was targeting $250 million reduction on the film side .

“We are continuously evolving the business to make Sony Pictures Entertainment more efficient and competitive,” a Sony spokesman said on Wednesday.

that's three years of BOMBS and CUTS. in this day in age where movies are breaking box office records with every release, Fox, Universal and Disney, Sony can't seem to stop stepping on their dicks. bottom line is when Americans are turning out in record numbers to go to the movies and you're discounting their North American flops, I can't continue this conversation lol.

here's another:

http://fortune.com/2015/08/14/studio-bo ... sony-2015/

sorry that last one is just Forbes on the North American box office stats, which is where movies are made, marketed and sold to the world.

you want t get into Metacritic, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes reviews of the actual garbage they are putting out? or those don't count because they're "opinions"?

let's go worldwide gross, starting to see a trend here? one that backs up my "since 2013 when the major studios are breaking all time box office records these guys couldn't hit the the bottom of the ocean with a rock if they threw it from the shore" argument:

2013: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/?vi ... 013&p=.htm
2014: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/?vi ... 014&p=.htm

I think we all agree Sony have released some shitty movies, whether or not they should be considered bombs is the argument here.

To me a bomb is a movie that has neither critical nor financial success. Many of the Sony films have little critical success, but it's hard to argue against financial success.

when you're a financial analyst and have been for over a decade let me know. plus I'm a big movie fan, sometimes you have to know when to admit you're wrong. I watch Sony's numbers every day, it's my job. the Film wing is atrocious and they need to clean house, it didn't start with that whole email hacking scandal (which I didn't even bring up before), it was problem before that. oh and by the way that was a HUGE black eye on the company. tell your boy to walk away, this argument is over.

I don't think we're arguing about the same thing. My arguments have nothing to do with market share, and to be honest I don't care. That's all I have to say on the topic.

just like you just did with that comment? Sony has no idea what they are doing when it comes to making movies, that's the argument. you're wrong if you try to side against that fact. so give up.

hey you love comic book movies! right? what do you think about Sony's big announcement today? a standalone Venom movie, with no Spiderman, outside of the MCU with Dante Harper writing the script? lol

I'd say it's a very puzzling decision given that they're on good terms with Marvel Studios.

This was the argument FYI. UKE and I were arguing that the movies weren't bombs, not that Sony Films makes shitty business decisions.
