I watched 'The Neon Demon' last night, and it was definitely a bit unsettling. Can't say I really liked it, or that I'm even glad I watched it, but...maybe, at the very least, I respect that films like this can be made? I dunno. Still chewing on it.

Doctor Strange (2016)
9/10
The best Marvel movie to date.

- Yes. The louder the better. Stops me from thinking.
- You don't like to think? What do you like?
- Never thought about it.

Wow, that's some high praise. I'd queued it up for a rental, but I may have to reconsider.

'Arrival' was really good, despite the
► Show Spoiler
but I still think it's worth checking out.

Edit: Actually, it just dawned on me a few minutes ago...
► Show Spoiler
Consider me even more impressed at this point.

The final 77 minutes or so.

You're going to need to be more specific. I take it there is something in particular you didn't like. I'm curious as to what?

It was bland and uninvolving. Also...ADVANCED EXTRATERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENT BEINGS stand back for literally days on end while we run around figuring out what their smoke rings mean. Surely advanced beings would have a better way of getting their point across than having a bunch of humans play charades with them all day while they stare back silently.

"Here are. Figure this out if you can. We'll let you know if you're on the right track. Maybe."

Yeah, but the aliens just straight up telling us how it is would have made for a pretty short movie.

I felt like the point of the movie was more about provoking thought into communication, rather than a realistic depiction of aliens.

The Handmaiden: Beautifully shot movie.

The Birth of a Nation: A bit hit and miss.

About Elly: Difficult to recommend, but glad I checked it out.

Swiss Army Man: What...the...fuck...indeed...

Train to Busan: This one was a surprise. Not great, but a really good one.

I need a 4,000 word essay on how this movie is like Trump's America on my desk first thing tomorrow morning. And pictures of Spider-Man! All the pictures of Spider-Man you got! I got a headlining story brewing and I need all the pictures of Spider-Man I can get! What are you still doing here? Get on it!

Exactly. The alien stuff is really just a setting (although the design was great!) and focuses more on how we humans view the world through language.

It's a film definitely worth watching a couple of times

Villeneuve is a great Director. Check out his early work Incendies and he is involved in this year's Blade Runner Sequel

The Wailing: This one definitely messed with me. Creepy, suspenseful, and a bit of a puzzle.

The trailer doesn't really do a good job of representing the feel/flow of the movie. The first hour is slow and a bit campy, but it works well to draw you in along with the bumbling protagonist. Then that second+ hour, when you realize you're already stuck waist deep in the quicksand.
