Um, as a new-born Kiwi: There is nothing even close to similar between Union boys and NFL boys.

No need to go further, as they are entirely different sports. That said, seeing, and hearing, 21 year old kids crunch in their kits is something to behold. That shit is insane.

Same, too, for literally any union team on the planet.

Was there a point, anywhere here?

I watched NZ vs England on Saturday night before EARTH, and I saw maybe a few head-wraps?

Is that padding for you people?

Some players do wear padding in Rugby actually, but certainly not to the extent of NFL players.

I doubt doubt the NFL players get some good medical benefits from such armour.

In spite of the fact that the Kiwis failed, miserably, I was shocked to realise, again, how fucking hard Union is.

Second favourite sport, after all-mighty football.

I agree, albeit with a different definition of football.

I really like that Scottish game where they hit each other with sticks as well.

Why America will never be good at football

In football even the most specialised players still require a relatively diverse set of skills to function as an effective player. For example a target man usually needs to be tall, strong, good at heading, good at timing runs and picking out team mates, and being able to finish doesn't go amiss too.

In American sports you emphasis being able to be amazingly good at one very specific skill and everything else is completely irrelevant. Running fast, throwing a ball, catching an egg, being extraordinarily fat, etc.

In football the exception actually proves the rule; being a good goalkeeper requires a relatively small skill set, and sure enough America has produced several very good goalkeepers.

I know it, friend. Have a sense of humor, or two. I thought the bit at the end was pretty obvious....

I'd take most Aussie goalkeepers in the past thirty years over anyone from America.

Tim Howard is a beast bro. You don't agree?

Kasey Keller was no slouch either.

BTW: Congrats on an excellent game earlier for your Socceroos. Glad they had such a great showing, and too bad they didn't win their first match....

Kit: Right on, mate!

Nosy T: I'd say they did.

I haven't commented, as I didn't watch it and am feeling really flat right now, but I will say this: By the looks of it, we played excellently, and showed Spain how to play the serious contenders for the Cup.

Such a shame Cahill won't be playing the last game. I wouldn't be surprised if her retires now - he's 34, after all.

Samoans tend to age a bit better physically than whiteys, though. ;)

Sydney FC are definitely playing better against Newcastle United (the English one) than I expected.

Tough crowd, too. I can't imagine a single person supporting Sydney in the crowd in Auckland right now.

Fuck that. I have my issues with Australia, but I'll always back an Aussie team in a situation like this any day. The next season of the A League is going to be tough, though, with supporting Wellington Phoenix . . .

Football United Tour

And my mistake: They played in Dunedin last night, not Auckland. Probably explains the hard-core British love and Aussie hatred of the fans both on Facebook and in the crowd last night.

Nix and West Ham play in Auckland tonight, but there's no way I even own clothes warm enough to go and sit and watch it. Fuck this winter.

West Ham United vs Wellington Phoenix in less than ten minutes!

Should be pretty entertaining. Nix are shaping up to have a great team this season, so it'll be good to see how they go. And hopefully Based Brockie has rediscovered his ability and starts dropping jaws again.

Wellington have always been the dark horse of the League. Hopefully now I've moved here they'll start playing exactly the way that they should with all their talent.

Wellington up 1-0! Typical over-acting and dirty tactics from the English team lead to a nice spot kick with Durante slamming it in.

Wellington are playing much, much better than Sydney FC last night against a far tougher opponent.

"GG" = "Good Game"? They lost. Phoenix won.

And it was a helluva game. Loved every second of it.
