You are going to bed at what 11 your time? When did you get old? What happened to drinking the night away?

@Hellboy - I do agree is the occasional chick in a skirt a bad thing? Or since Liz is back a dude wearing whatever works for chicks? I get you dont want boob thread part two but we are all inherently sexual beings.

Well I used to be now I prefer books and to be left alone but you get the point

Okay kiddos I had my fun

Maynard is probably in the top 5 all time in terms of rock vocalists. I can’t imagine any other singer being able to step in and do what he does with Tool. His work in particular on Aenima is at times genius. Lateralus as well but I would argue he is a little better on Aenima although that may be more a function of the lyrics being a bit more challenging thematically.

That said man he was good on Reflection. 10k might be his least impressive vocal performance. The Pot is the only song where I didn’t like what he did vocally. I would have preferred a less humorous take on Rosetta but that isn’t a knock. His did nail Wings. Right in Two felt really simple and a bit silly with the silly monkeys, however he does sound good on the track.

To be fair though 10,000 Days wasn’t an easy album to sing on.

His work on Descending and Invincible is very good and fits the music extremely well.

He was a powerhouse on Undertow and Opiate. Very few vocalists can do both pure power and raw energy while still being able to maintain control.

Tool without Maynard wouldn’t be Tool. In terms of importance I would still say, in all seriousness, that Danny is the most important member of the band. Not a knock on anyone but what he does on the drums is unmatched in rock. A few metal drummers and some jazz, fusion guys can compete but again we are talking greatest of all time conversation any genre.

The member that probably gets the least attention and deserves more is Justin. He is an incredibly talented bass player.

There everyone should be happy now.

You gotta walk me thru that one Raffa. You feel fucked? I mean is that a good thing or bad thing? Did you enjoy yourself? Did I? I will have to talk to some of my philosophy buddies and see if this is covered anywhere and get back to you.

@mog.

We both enjoyed it.
And it distracts us from the hard wait for some big news about the new album.

When I first Invincible I was extremely skeptical. The entire middle that grinds to a halt with that slow tempo was pretty off putting at first. Claiming that Maynard is the "weakest" member in terms of contribution is completely false because it is entirely his contribution to this song that makes it not just work, but soar. They have claimed repeatedly to not write with lyrics in mind, but this song makes it clear that Maynard views the arrangements with music and lyrics in mind based on how good Lateralus was and Invincible is. Instead of the boring, slow slog in the middle of the song being just that, Maynard transforms it and melds it into the theme of the lyric, giving it a whole new meaning in the arrangement. The song is infinitely better for his contribution.
I know the pieces fit, I studied the numbers in Southern France.

I can’t imagine Tool without Maynard or any of the other members.
I think songs like Sober, H, Pushit,Aenima, Third Eye, Parabol/Parabola wouldn’t have been what they are without Maynard.

Yep gotta agree Flea did a hell of a job. Not a Metallica fan (although I respect their early works and recognize how massively influential and important those early albums were to metal) but yeah Flea's induction speech was excellent.

The rock and roll hall of fame is a fucking joke though. Think of the bands that have not been nominated and will likely never get nominated.

@Children, Thats what they call me, just don't be asking me to compromise coz I will not!

@Mog, yeah rock and roll hall of fame is a joke but I just love that speech. Metallica was my jam as a young teen before Tool so will always have a spot spot for them. It's been a tough slog being a fan over the years through the latter 90's, early 2000's. But Fight fire with fire, like it was for Flea, was the song that blew my young teenage mind so can relate and just love everything about the speech.

So with the hope of news any f-ing day now when will they announce a supporting tour. One Big news dump ie. album title, track list, cover art, tour dates or will it be a slow one at a time announcement?

I would say every other band goes the news dump route right? But TOOL not TOOL they will do it different but not much time left here.
