King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard

Post by Bill Hilly »

Why don't we have a King Giz thread yet? Super talented band that runs the gamut of musical styles. I'm really digging their new album, Fishing for Fishies, but I'm always going back to their 5 album run of 2017. Gumboot Soup is still my favorite album, which surprisingly had some "leftovers" from their earlier albums from 2017. It's got this 70s prog sound that I love. I'm just really impressed with the talent and work ethic these guys have. Future is bright for this band.

Why don't we have a King Gizzard thread? Why? You need to ask?

Seriously?

Oh, I see. Same reason why I don't have to ask the obvious question of why you're a twat? I get it now.

Cool man. Yeah, I'm seeing them in August in Denver. I'm really excited to see them for the first time.

Please do, Busty. This is probably their most proggy album: Polygondwanaland. The first track, Crumbling Castle is outstanding.

I was being sarcastic.

Talk about Giz Whiz whatever to your heart's content.

Wow, having seen them, finally, twice this year, and absorbing the enormity of their catalog, including 5 more releases this year alone…. I am thoroughly obsessed with these Aussies.

Holy hell, they are talented and fucking prolific. OK, they have a couple of projects that I just pretend don’t exist, but I’m wondering if even those tracks will eventually grow on me (probably not, they are pretty unlistenable imo).

Any regulars left that are digging this year’s crop?

I’m learning Ambergris on bass, and it’s a challenging masterpiece of beautifully weird rhythmic understatement and tweaky melodies.

Incredible live band. Can’t wait to see them again.

If any other bass players wanna give it a go:

The Gizz are doing a run of shows, including some residencies at great venues in the US right now. I wish I could swing some of them but it’s not possible this time.

Where/when did you see them Brewdog?

What’s your top KG release?

Well now. I pop in and read this. I'm seeing my first King Giz show in a couple of weeks! Leo Sayer is on the bill too. ( giggle). Seriously though I'm pretty pumped. I'm expecting to like it quite a lot.

I’m surprised that KGLW is Cal’s favorite band…

What have you sampled HB? They are at least 6 bands (so many different genres represented), try some more. And definitely go see them live.

I've listened to a bunch of their recent albums. There's some I think is great, plenty I think it forgettable.
