Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
Holy fucking shit. What an amazing show in San Francisco!
1) The band was great. They are so tight and professional.
2) The setlist was amazing: I do like emotive, so I wasn't upset and did enjoy the 2011 tour, unlike a lot of people. That being said, it was great to see this show include a lot more original songs.
3) The sound (from where I was standing) was great; the heavy parts sounded heavier than every. Not sure if it is the band or the sound of venue. But either way way awesome.
4) The new song was interesting. It is quite different, but that is expected after all this time. Very piano based. Didn't listen on youtube beforehand, so it was my first time listening when saw it live. I enjoyed it, but will def have to listen more in the future to let sink in. By And Down took a few listens to really appreciate it, but fell in love with it when it did. Anyway I'm glad they did a new song.
5) The stage production was by far the best I have seen APC have. Was very impressed by addition of colored lights and screens.
I hate to say something so cliche, but really this might have been the best I have seen them. What an awesome show!
setlist for San Francisco:
The Package
The Hollow
The Noose
Weak And Powerless
Rose
Imagine
Thinking Of You
By And Down
Thomas
Peace, Love And Understanding
Magdalena
Vanishing
Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drum
A Stranger
Blue
The Outsider
Gravity
Feathers

Apparently they played another new tune called Hourglass last night, according to setlist.fm. Hopefully it's legit!
Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
They did indeed play another new tune last night. GG!
Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
Yeah but the SF gig was dedicated to 'Chocolate Cake'.Ettan wrote:They did indeed play another new tune last night. GG!
I'm glad you enjoyed the show @nousername and you were right about the release of tix happening approx one week before show. There were also good deals on the Stubber.
setlistfm indicates Orestes was on the SF set list, but they skipped it.
They are doing three different instances of 3 shows-in-a-row on this tour.
And then one day off from an East Coast time zone show to a West Coast time zone show to close it out.
Surprised of this, seems like a demanding schedule.
'By and Down' sounded better on this tour than last.
Billy's song was received well.'Thomas' rocked!
One other note...
the email from the Promoter APE Concerts a couple days before the show reads:
This did not hold true upon entry. It's as if they gave us the Outside Lands info instead...Stay Hydrated

Yeah, that pissed me off. I brought a water bottle because of that email, wan't planning to before. They didn't let me bring it in. Such a waste, I wasn't gonna chug it right before the show started, would have just made me need to piss during the show. Whatever, forgot about it by APC's set.bonebroke wrote: the email from the Promoter APE Concerts a couple days before the show reads:This did not hold true upon entry. Is this APC or Puscifer? Sounds wayyyy too much like Puscifer. Easily one of the worst APC songs I have ever heardhellboy wrote:Yeah, not a bad song - preferred it to FeathersEttan wrote: Holy shit this song kicks ass, best one so far!

I like the sound of Hourglass and I can't judge it by the YouTube version because I did that with Feathers, but the counting down lyrics of the song make it sound kind of goofy to me. Seeing Feathers live at the San Diego show changed my mind about my first listen on YouTube. 5 4 3 2 ........ what? Haha. I enjoyed the instrumentals and with the drummer, bassist, and vocalist all in Puscifer its bound to sound kind of alike.

Puscifer and APC are like 3/5 the same band they're bound to sound the same.

Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
Thats complete nonsense. APC developed a unique sound with Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step. That is APC. Feathers I am fine with. Not mind blowing by any means but it isn't bad and it absolutely sounds like APC. This Hourglass shit sounds like a bad Puscifer track. Lyrics are arbsurd. It just terrible. Absolutely terrible. And if Feathers and Hourglass are the best they have then RIP the new APC album. Hell Hourglass by itself might ruin the album. Compare again to Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step. Not one bad song on either album. Every song exceptional.Ravenpig wrote:Puscifer and APC are like 3/5 the same band they're bound to sound the same.
No Tool album to be found. APC completely subpar....smh
Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
To me, they sound mostly what I'd expect if Maynard simply added vocals to the top of something Billy wrote, rather than being involved more intricately in the songwriting process. I think both the songs are ok, but neither of them hold up to MDN or 13th Step.
I don't want to get too judgmental over material analysed via shitty Youtube bootlegs though. Hopefully there's some more writing and tweaking to go.

I like 'Feathers' more when I read the lyrics.
Don't know what 'Hourglass' is about but the word implies there is a time frame.
Are these songs directed at musician(s) in his life?

In that interview with Billy a few weeks it was strongly implied that the writing process is still ongoing, and that debuted songs might not be fully completed. So it wouldn't surprise me.hellboy wrote:Hopefully there's some more writing and tweaking to go.

Yeah, but I think he also said this about By & Down and not much happened (and it was a pretty uninspiring track I thought). The new tracks sound better than that though.UndKeineZwEier wrote:In that interview with Billy a few weeks it was strongly implied that the writing process is still ongoing, and that debuted songs might not be fully completed. I S O............................ Maverick Center poster by Ron Ransom!
I am quite fond of several of the posters for this APC tour. My favorite has to be from the Salt Lake City Show. If anyone has one to sell please contact me. I will pay fair market value or entertain trades.

Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
Such a weird song. It sounds very much like a Puscifer song, but with that distinctive APC guitar sound on it. I can almost hear Carina singing the backing vocals.
That's not to say I dislike it though, it's just not really what I think an APC song should sound like.

Re: APC Tour 2017 discussion (includes spoilers!)
I guess it's the funky and weird melodies that makes it sound like Puscifer, APC to me has a more serious tone and feel. Not a bad song though!hellboy wrote:Such a weird song. Yeah, I think that's a good summary - instrumentally it sounds like APC alright, but lyrically/vocally it doesn't seem to fit their usual MO.Ettan wrote: I guess it's the funky and weird melodies that makes it sound like Puscifer, APC to me has a more serious tone and feel. Not a bad song though!
