I'm debating cancelling my pre-order based on this and the vocoder song(s). If the album was more along the lines of the Doomed, Disillusioned, and Talk Talk I'd still feel OK about owning it but yeesh.

I decided not to judge it until I listened to quite a lot, and it's growing. Some catchy parts, when I first heard MJ sing "plastic surgery" I was really thrown off guard, did not expect that. MJ's pronunciation is unique imo, I visualize him swaying(?) a lot with his mouth for some reason. Very straight forward lyrics but you're still able to read between the lines. Musically I barely remember anything, Billy has some OK riffs in there but nothing that has stuck to my mind (yet).

The drums: It's a pretty common saying around these parts but I really miss Josh Freese, Jeff is just more suited for Puscifer's kind of music and perhaps it's Jeff's "fault" that APC now has that Puscifer vibe to it?

Anyways, So long and Thanks for the Fish will probably not be my most played track on this new album, but I still like it.

So honest review time. I have had some fun poking at you all about new APC, and to be entirely honest, I have had a hard time really listening to these tracks because I view this APC album as a further delay to new Tool. After taking awhile with the four new tracks they have released I have to say they are all very well done. That isn't to say these are the kind of APC tracks I prefer, or even the direction I would have hoped they would have taken, but it is a natural progression from the sounds they explored on EMotive.

The production quality here is very high and the songs are crafted in a very smart way. I will always prefer APC where Billy is front and center and Josh is beating the hell out of the drums, but those days are gone and when I look at what these four tracks have to offer, I have to say these are good songs. I don't imagine Eat the Elephant will be anywhere near as good as Mer de Noms or Thirteenth Step, but so far, based on these four songs as well as the two they played on tour (Feather and Hourglass), I think this will be a fairly decent album. It won't be heavy in my rotation but I suspect I will give it a listen now and again and appreciate some of things Billy and Maynard have done with these tracks.

I have avoided a few of the pre released tracks in the hope I would get something to enjoy come release day. This is looking significantly less likely its going to be happening for me based on above comments. Hopefully they've left a banger or 2 on there.

Anthony Panchano or something. Melon giving this a 4 or 5. And that's on a scale of 10.

I can now confidently say moving to Qld in 2004 is the greatest thing I ever did. Sure might miss out on pretty much every live gig, have beaches with brown water , crocodiles and stingers that will kill ya. But hot n spicy all year round pretty hard to pass up

Agree. Kudos there for them, 2 day before launch leak. The album is OK. Very catchy at times. Loved feathers. I hope this is not their last album....but people don’t get younger.
