I was thinking of going to soundwave this year I decided not to, definitely won't be as good as last year. Seeing APC and Metallica was amazing! :D

Nah, APC were underwhelming and Metallica a long since past it. This years lineup is much better in my opinion, even though the headline acts are generally shit, there is much goodness in the finer print.

I think metallica still.play amazing shows, even though they have passed their prime point in life. APC where ok at soundwave but I have seen them play way better shows at other venue's before and for some reason I like seeing bands play at night time rather than during the day

The Living End are shit, but STP are even shitter so I'm declaring it a win. STP linked up with two junkies in a row now?

Wait, bands don't tour until they have finished a new album?

not anymore, Tyson, it's the new "IT" thing to do ... I know, it's a bit disheartening, but as a whole, I think music lovers will warm up to it a bit with time

Apparently it's the last year for both SW and BDO in Perth according to the promoter. What an ego on that guy.

It's his ego that is prompting that, or the financial reality?

Megadeth have dropped out, so it seems like Mastodon will be headlining the metal stage now. Excellent news!

I used to love megadeth, but I haven't really enjoyed them since endgame, their latest 2 albums have been really average.

Bro even had a strap to hang his iPad around his neck. I think he was going a home alone that night.

Interesting Soundwave announcement just happened:
  • Each Soundwave will now be two days, one weekend in Adel/Melb, the other Bris/Syd with the days alternating on each weekend
  • 2-Day pass is the same price as the last event ($185 + booking fee)
  • Single day passes will be $120 each
Dates are 21 & 22 Feb for Adelaide & Melbourne, then 28 Feb and 1 March for Sydney & Brisbane.

The obvious question for me is - will we know which band will be playing which day early enough in the piece to get away with buying a single day ticket. I'm not against two days of festival in a row, but not so sure I'd want to commit should one of the days have no one worth seeing.

Part of the justification given is to "minimise clashes; give bands longer sets, better staging, production & infrastructure" - all things I'd be happy with in principal.

That seems like overkill to me. I haven't been to a festival since fucking 1999, but still. Two days? MDMA doesn't work well two days in a row.

Physically I have no issue with two days. It potentially sucks a lot of time away from the family though, which is something I'm quite conscious of.

It's a pity no Perth show this year. It's been a couple years since I've been so I am due. Curious about the line up though with no BDO in the cards

I was obviously being tongue-in-cheek, but you raised a good point.

Unless you're up for a camp-out a la some of the festivals that hit Byron Bay, why bother with a two day festival? Don't people have shit to do?

Biggest question for me is the line up. Let's go with Faith No More as one headliner, and Disturbed as the other (sadly, this is a legitimate rumour). One I'd clearly like to attend, the other I have no intention of going within 5km of. Before committing to either one or both days, I'd need to know which one FNM were headlining.

Last year the program came out only a week or two before the event. This can't happen for the next Soundwave if they expect a 2-day format to work.

All things said and done though, my calendar is clear for that weekend, and I'm excited by the prospect of a decent lineup with less stages, less clashes and longer sets.
