Yeah he's a great drummer, that's for sure, but Josh is a notch upwards.
Original drummer would have a different feel, and that might be more emotional and come across musically. I'm not going to rank one above the other though. I appreciate both for what they do equally.

6 months ago I would've bet anything that we'd certainly get the new music video(s) this year, but even that hope has pretty much burned out at this point.

ZYV wrote:I was unaware of Josh not being interested. I don't really keep up with APC as much as TOOL. What's the reason behind Josh's decision?
I don't know the actual reason for his departure because no one has commented on details directly, but this what I think the reason was based on interviews from Josh and Maynard:
The 2011 APC summer tour was booked after Josh was committed to tour with Weezer, so Jeff Friedl replaced him on that tour. The next tour they did was the Soundwave 2013 tour, with a one-off in vegas in late December 2012 being the only show before Soundwave. The Soundwave announcement was well before the Vegas show happened. In a interview promoting APC at Soundwave, Maynard was asked what the line-up would be, and he said it would include Jeff Friedl. Around that time, Josh Freese tweeted he would not be playing Soundwave or South America with APC. Just a few days later, he tweeted that he has left APC for good with no plans to return. Josh appeared on the "I'd Hit That" podcast in May 2013. When asked about why he left, he refused to go into details about it, only saying that he thought things were not handled very well. Then there was a interview with Maynard I think 2013 or 2014 (I do not remember the source) where he was talking about line up changes. While he did not give specifics of which people, or even if referring to APC or Puscifer, his did say something along the lines of that he understands that people have other commitments and cannot always play the booked shows/tours. But then said "but they just shouldn't get mad when I hire the replacement".
So from all this, I kind of conclude that Josh was expecting to be back with the band after the Weezer tour, but Maynard decided to just keep Jeff in the band.
Again, this is all hypothesis, but I do think Maynard was implying Josh Freese when he gave that interview.

Anyway I do look forward to a tour next year. I love APC, always a good live show. New music would be awesome. Have been thinking that new music would make sense because the Tool thing is taking longer than Maynard probably expected, especially if Billy has a bunch of stuff good to go as he has said in the past.

I think the most likely answer to the APC drummer question is that Jeff is cheaper than Josh.

Anyway, some dude posted on Reddit that Rock in the Range gets announced this week. Being that it appears to be happening in May 2017, speculation is that APC could be on it.

Rock On The Range website shows they were supposed to make the announcement today, however are holding it off out of respect due to the asshole who attempted to murder people at Ohio State today.

Stay tuned...

That's odd, you'd think a little good news would brighten up the day a bit.

Yeah, cool lineup. Looks like the APC speculation was nothing more than that.
