Zig - any idea why its almost a perfect score?? I mean it looks like an open world version of the previous Free Software games, thats not to take anything away but these scores suggest its some sort of uber masterpiece

I kinda assume it's because it's a well made and executed game, rather than just an "open world Dark Souls". I might check it out one day when it's on sale - no doubt it's good but I'm kinda wary of Day 1 hype these days.

The score is perfect because the game is perfect

Well, I haven't played the final version of the game yet, so I can't judge. But after the beta version experienced last November, it became more clear to me in what direction they decided to make this project. Yes, it's still the same Dark Douls, but only now set in the open world + you have a horse (yakul).

As far as I can tell, based on the feedback from the journalists (and my own own experience during the beta, I played around 15 hours) they praise the spirit of exploration in this game, there are no markers on the map and no question marks, you can go wherever you want and explore whatever you want. They also praise the open world design.

The world itself in this game is dynamic and different events take place at different times of the day/night cycle.

And of course they praise the boss fights, which are one of the best in the Soulsborne series.

They also praise the quests which are not the typical "give and take" quests, but these quests are more like solving some kind of a puzzle.

The open world in this game is not the same as, for example, in Ubisoft games, I think people are just tired of this, so the old school map without question marks makes them also so excited.

Overall, yes, it looks like Miyazaki has made his own Souls Zelda after all these years. And I'm totally ok with that.

Sounds like they've cocked up the PC version of Elden Ring, only getting "mixed" reviews there.
