Turned out to be a decent interview, and Tool was actually discussed including new album progress. Not wanting to get too carried away, but at least it looks like there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Isn't his birthday in April? Why would they wait 5 months to release an interview?

That does seem like a long time. I presume the publication of it today was to coincide with the Puscifer remix album, but holding it back 5 months seems excessive.

Here's a question as I've never been in band, would you even bother tracking if your vocalist hasn't completed his parts?

You wouldn't. Personally I don't think the recent photos have been from sessions recording the album, but from this "curveball" that gets thrown around.
