I got sick of waiting for the next album, so by using my Administrators privildge I declare the album of the week will be Aussie Crust Punk band Beanflipper's Total Dysfunctional Collapse

I've hastily uploaded it to Soundcloud for your listening displeasure:

https://soundcloud.com/matt-smith-199/s ... pper-total

I expect reviews of this album will be largely negative, but for me, I really like it. Points of contention I expect will be:
  • The vocals - certainly an acquire taste.
  • It's punk - a genre which seems underappreciated by Tool fans.
  • The musicianship probably isn't good enough for Mog and Kittaan.
My counterpoints to these arguments:
  • Vocals to me are more about capturing the essence and feel of the music, rather than hitting a perfect note. As a result growling and screaming suit some styles of music more than others. In this case, I feel the vocals match the punky, metal, dirty and occassionally surf infused music.
  • Punk is great! This ain't your Green Day variety shite.
  • Having seen these guys play several times (and our band supported them once from memory) they are no slouches behind their instruments. No virtuosos here, but the work here is solid, and in particular Peakin' is a great display of their instrumental work.
So take a listen, I'm expecting bad reviews, but it's just possible one or two of you might have a listen and find a new sub genre which make pique your interest.

Not too bad for punk! :P
Yes the vocals detracted from it but for the most part I could listen beyond them.

Is this really crust punk?

Way too much metal to call it crust punk but what the fuck do I know, I always thought The Exploited were a crust band lel.

Looking on wiki I was dead wrong, meh, I thought crust just went with the look, dirty and maintain the original London punk sound.

Anyway always love when bands use samples, reminds me of Toe to Toe.

A solid 7/10, was hoping more though what I explained above, was hoping for PUNK RAWK!!!

It's a dandruff thing apparently. All the crust punks I ever knew didn't shower.

In general, Punk as a genre has never floated my boat. This is no exception. Getting through this was a chore and frankly, I'm sorry I did listen all the way through. I should know by now that this just isn't my thing, but I do want to at least try to give everything in the Listener's Club a shot.

I get bored right away with the "punk drums" thing. It grates on me, and I've never seen the point. The vocals are just not musical or enjoyable in any way. As I've said before on other selections, there were sections of a few tracks where I felt like I could finally get into it… but it was just a tease.

For me, The Clash is about as "punk" as I go - and I love them. You're probably laughing at me for calling them Punk. Amiright?

Yes. All of us. Together. Here at this party that you weren't invited to.

The Clash are a form of punk (which is really more of a style than a sound), no issue there.
