Classic AOTW- Fleetwood Mac: Rumours

Post by Ravenpig »

To me overall Fleetwood Mac is a decent band, at most, in all of their five thousand lineups. But this album is the number one example ever in the "band punching way above its weight" (good thread idea?) category. I won't go over the infamous story behind this album, as I'm sure most of you know it at least in some minimal way, but it's really cool that you can pretty much hear everything that was going on between them on it.

This is no doubt an all time classic, but having said that, I genuinely have no idea how well this is going to over with our little crowd.

Ha yea, I actually avoided listening to it until a couple of years ago. I automatically assumed it was over-rated and average at best due to my mostly apathetic feelings toward the Mac gang(s).

I'll have a listen to this after my nanna nap and have eaten some digestives.

Oh and I've got bridge this afternoon, then some bingo, I'll try and squeeze it in between them, plus I have to take my medication at 6 and dinner is set at 6:30 here. Then I'm watching NCIS before being in bed by 8 so maybe tomorrow. I'll have to check the activities wall first though.

Yeah, I think some of us are still failing to understand the concept of "Classic Album Of The Week".

It's not necessarily shit your mother listened to while she was snorting coke off the asses of Black Panthers, or vaguely stoned-out dad-rock. It's what would be considered classic TO MEMBERS OF THIS SPECIFIC FORUM.

FLEETWOOD MAC can lick my sack. If you're going to post bygone-era shit, at least keep it to things like BOWIE, KATE BUSH, SPRINGSTEEN, or even stuff like ENO.
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.

Last week's CAOTW had at least 4 reviews from people who had never heard it before.

If you don't like this pick, ignore it. It's no big deal. Can't win them all.

I'll get around to listening to it eventually, but at the moment I'm balls deep trying to listen to a bunch of 2013 releases.

I completely relate this to a classic album ... The songs are instantly recognizable and the musicianship is quality ... It's also a record that is highly regarded by peers and musos in general ... I just personally don't like this one ... No harm raven ... The Boss is likely just hungover and suffering severe vaginal itch at the same time

This album would have sounded great on an 8 track recorder back in 1979, whilst driving a '73 Ford Mustang Coupe with a boot full of illegal firearms and a garbage bag full of marijuana across the Mojave Desert, stoned on liquid cocaine and with only an afro'd negro hooker named Roxie as company and with the cops in high pursuit.

Under those circumstances, this album is a solid 8. Otherwise it a paltry 3.5.

Shit, even 'Red Solo Cup' is a ripper under those circumstances ... although, it's likely without Roxie in tow if that were the soundtrack

I'd probably rather have Ian Dury on the deck in that situation. But hey, I give Rumors a solid 6.5. Can't deny their crazy chemistry.

I can think of only three bands in all of rock'n'roll history that I dislike more than The Eagles.

See if you can guess who they are.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Nope. Nickelback, The Manic Street Preachers and Green Day.
