Spruance is great, but him being in the band has little effect on home much I'd like FNM. Jon Hudson is a great guitar player.
If Patton is going to do something with Spruance then it should just be Mr Bungle.

I just hope Patton gives more creative license to the other guys, apparently on Album of the Year the band wrote some great songs, Patton comes in and shit all over it and it has to be rewritten.
Although this song was great.

This simply does nothing but prove how much of a cunt Patton is.Not Tyson wrote:I just hope Patton gives more creative license to the other guys, apparently on Album of the Year the band wrote some great songs, Patton comes in and shit all over it and it has to be rewritten.

I don't understand the talk of other guitarists, the one they should bring back is Jim Martin, you know, the guy that played on their best album

Yeah, to any fan of music, this is obviously what I was talking about. Not Tyson wrote:I don't understand the talk of other guitarists, the one they should bring back is Jim Martin, you know, the guy that played on their best album

I remember paying this to total FNM virgins on Saturday mornings coming down from E. Complete recruits to the soldiers of the Faith.
No joke.
Probably could not do it with any other album of theirs.

Friend of mine met Spruance at The Corner some eight or nine years back. Got him to a sign his Secret Chiefs 7". Made him happy. Worth a fortune now.
Asked him about Patton's "involvement" with Disco Volante. Trey confirmed that Mike wrote (most of) The Bends, on a 4 track mini portable studio in hotel rooms across the world while on tour with FNM. He also wrote Backstrokin'. And fuck all else. Trey and Dunn wrote pretty much the rest.
Confirmed what we already suspected.
Also confirmed that his (brief) time with FNM was far from fulfilling and that he didn't write any guitar parts for King For A Day - they were written for him. Admitted that the mood of the band at the time was "suffocating". At lot of tempers were lost, walls were punched and equipment was smashed. Said there was no way he could continue with a band who were in such a terrible emotional state.
He also confirmed that FNM were never really happy with KFAD - especially Roddy Bottum who more or less hated it.
Personally I could never stand that album - but die-hards seem to like it well enough.

I think it, like most of FNM, is pretty average. Good average, but still average. "ANGEL DUST" is such a standout probably because of that.Calfium Jay wrote:Friend of mine met Spruance at The Corner some eight or nine years back. Got him to a sign his Secret Chiefs 7". Spruance is a beautiful human being. I've read every interview I can find on the net over the years. I think he's just wonderful. I don't dig him using the Masonic symbol on his strap when he plays live, but I get why he does it.
Everything he touches is just incredible. Sadly, I hyped myself way too much for his/their last one, so I didn't appreciate it as much as I should've.
I have high hopes of him doing solo work when he's older and more reflective.
He makes bands/musicians with occult tendencies look like fucking amateurs.
Absolutely love the guy. I stayed around after the show back int he day to personally thank him for making it to Newcastle, of all places. He gave me the biggest smile. Wonderful, wonderful human being.

Re: Mike Patton - Tomahawk, Fantomas, FNM, Mr Bungle, etc
This would be great, but it appears that particular bridge has been burnt. Not Tyson wrote:I don't understand the talk of other guitarists, the one they should bring back is Jim Martin, you know, the guy that played on their best album
As for the "old" Faith No More - it's been pretty well documented there were a range of problems for pretty much all of their albums. Drug use, egos and the rest of the stuff that comes with being a popular band. It's not a surprise to me.
Let's not forget that there's two sides to every story. Jim Martin tells a quite different story to the Faith No More breakup than a range of other people do.
From the outside though, they appear to be in a better place, the pressure has been lifted and new material could work out really well. Or it may turn out that the "suffocating" environment is required for a decent FNM album. We'll see.

Still waiting for those Massive Attack songs with Patton on guest vocals to submerge. They were scrapped from Heligoland - hopefully to be recycled at some point?
Massive Attack with Patton seems like perfect sense to me. More sense than MA with Sinead O'Connor........jeez WWTT??

I can't think of anything that would be worse. There's a reason why they were scrapped, thank fuck.Calfium Jay wrote:Still waiting for those Massive Attack songs with Patton on guest vocals to submerge. They were scrapped from Heligoland - hopefully to be recycled at some point?

And thinking that O'Connors gorgeous voice doesn't belong with MASSIVE ATTACK's music is so incredibly stupid that I don't even know where to begin. It's as though every excellent post you make is followed up with such a ridiculously moronic opinion or thought that it defies all sense of logic.
What the actual fuck, man. Seriously.

The idea of Mike Patton and Massive Attack collaborating together sounds awful. I can kind of picture it in my head and it's not pretty.
Water and electricity don't go well together.

I expect if the Patton/Massive Attack collaboration were any good it would have been released by now. The fact it hasn't suggest to me that one party doesn't like it.

Say what you want about the white boy, but he has excellent taste and is a perfect musician.
Loving knowing that there are MASSIVE ATTACK fans in this forum. I fucking absolutely Goddamn love them.

General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners is criminally underrated.
And now I know what to listen too.
