Holy shit

Science and Tech get my vote
That's kind of a big global challenge considering that women are getting raped to death on a regular basis in several countries, just for having poontangs.

Why science and tech? I was thinking more global ethics, since we're so rich, successful, and advanced in most modern sciences - we should be able to start telling other shitty countries how to behave and what to do.

I literally have no idea, and now I think it's raining, so I have to go to get beer in the rain.

Tyson wrote:That whole question and essay smacked of liberalism and you just confirmed it.

You can't free the fuck out of a country, without obviously decimating the population and implanting civilsed people.

Freedom ain't freedom unless self actualised.
Obviously I'm writing to the question and the markers, not what I think. Half the essays I've written in my life have been shit I didn't believe, because it was just easier.

Well, why would you pick science and tech? The question for discussion on the website was "How can scientific and technological breakthroughs be accelerated to improve the human condition?"

I actually considered it before posting here - I was going to focus on renewable energy technologies, as I believe Australia could be at the fore of that field.

Asia and Oceania: Chinese patent filings have gone up 500% in the last five years; China is investing more in cleaner energy technology than the U.S. does and it has the second largest R&D budget in the world. Asian countries with double-digit economic growth also have double-digit growth in R&D expenditures. Energy and environment is the focus of U.S. and China relations. Japan has launched a Venus probe that also carried a space sail that gains its energy from solar "wind" pressure in space.
Australia doesn't even get a mention . . .

As to science and tech, there is so much going on you could write a 20 page essay on, I'm too drunk and lazy to find what I've read lately but a lot of science fiction shit is coming true and being tested right now. That essay doesn't seem hard per se, just choosing a subject and running with it, then again you have to worry about marks, which sucks, who would have thought even in higher education you have to write to certain mind set.

Fuck that, how ridiculous.
Yeah, for shit I don't care about - like this essay.

It's difficult because none of the "challenges" given is a particular problem for Australia.

I'm sick of this fucking course. It's so retarded.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/07/ ... AW20130703
An overlooked aspect of the Pacific nation's economic outperformance has been the ability to attract a quarter of a million migrants every year, underpinning demand for everything from homes to cars, schools and hospitals.

"Provided population growth is planned for by government, it represents power to the economy," said Craig James, chief economist at stockbroker and fund manger CommSec. "Businesses are in business because they want to grow and solid population growth assists in that."

New South Wales, the country's most populous state, plans to splurge A$60 billion ($55 billion) on infrastructure in just the next four years to meet growing demand.

For sure, having more people is hardly a panacea and clearly entails all sorts of environmental challenges. But again Australia is better placed than many to cope.

While much of the hinterland is bush, there is plenty of living room on its 26,000 kilometers of fertile coastline. Its cities are among the least densely populated on the planet, despite holding the vast bulk of the nation's 23 million residents.

Water has been a perennial problem, but several years of widespread rain have filled the dams and reassured policy makers that drought is not a permanent state of affairs.
I might choose population growth just because it looks to be the easiest so far. Now to get good and drunk - the woman is home, and giving me the monthly tense, silent, stomping-around-like-a-fucking-idiot-fourteen-year-old-girl treatment.

Fuck her. She'll be lucky if I talk to her within the next month. Fucking bitch ruining my vacation.

Oh, my dear, sweet, friend - I stopped giving a fuck about somewhere around the beginning of this year.

I need to sit on a beach in Oz for a few weeks, get my fucking head back together. I'm nothing like what I was when I moved here back in 2007.

Tyson wrote:I could NEVER see myself writing an essay/opinion piece to appease some one, get your shit together, fuck, give me a course and I will waste a year of my life if not more giving my opinion
It's far from "appeasing".

My main projects last semester were 1. how to end the War on Drugs, and 2. why we need to control the global population in order to pose less of a threat to already threatened and endangered species - whether they be animals or plants.

Needless to say, I'm not the most popular person doing this course. They want hardcore leftists crying about socio-economic disparities around the world. Sure, I care about that kind of thing, but I'm of the impression that it's already covered. Let me look at other things.

While this essay isn't the first time I've had to not give a fuck and just pump out whatever, I don't see it as selling myself or my beliefs out. I'm capable of writing well enough to make the marker realise that what I've written is merely "ticking the boxes" - and if it's a subject I care very little for, I don't see the harm.

University education, just like everything in life, comes down to how good your non-literal blowjob-giving skills are.

Mine are fair to excellent. Somewhere in between.

While I tend to trust and agree with you on most things, I think you might be a little wrong on this one.

Or (and this is very possible), I've been taking the easy way out, and selling out all just to be able to get some grades this whole time. (Note that I absolutely didn't do that with my thesis).

My excuse is that it's the result that's important - and no, not the grade. Have I learnt enough in higher education to make me a serious decision-maker in the Australian public service? Sure. Have I been equipped with the skills to do such a thing? More or less. Have I learnt enough, regardless of my output, to make me a constructive, peaceful, conscientious, member of society? I would say so.

Isn't that what we really want?

I always thought FE was an allusion to the anus. You know, in a "one of the nine gates", kind of way.

WTF?!?!

There hasn't been ANY vitriol aimed at Tool for the past week or so. Shame on you all, may all upcoming gigs you look forward to attending cancel on you.

Now...where was I? Oh yeah...

I think it's highly unlikely that these guys will hit the studio by the end of the year. In fact I'm predicting Maynard will not even start writing his contribution until next year.
That will mean a total amount of four years will have been spent writing the music for...what....10 songs?!?!

What a joke.

Phew....now I feel better.

4 years? Where did you get that magical number?

They started writing for the new album since 2006 when they toured for 10,000 days. It looks like it will be a total of 10,000 days before we see a new album.

Here I will list things better than the "Sober" doll:

1. Pineapples

2. Children's floatation devices

3. Chocolate chip muffins

4. Oral sex

5. That feel when you wake up in the middle of the night, afraid that you've only got an hour or so before your alarm - then realise it's the weekend, and you don't have to do anything

6. Silver jewellery

7. STING

8. Watching volcanoes erupt from a safe distance

9. Breaking in new guitar strings

10. Kate Upton on the cover of "SPORTS ILLUSTRATED"

11. A "Sober" d-FUCK

Here is a list of things that are better than listening to Tool.

1. Going to auctions, making a high bid, then running away...giggling.
2. Throwing a Frisbee at some random child's head, when they aren't watching.
3. Making fun of the elderly from across the other side of the street.
4. Driving past a gym while you are listening to loud music and chugging from a soft drink can and thinking of all the sweaty dumbasses inside.
5. Staying nude for ages in the changing rooms after swimming and making the other patrons uncomfortable.
6. Eating junk food and watching Curb Your Enthusiasmdvds.
7. Masturbating in the bushes at the beach.
8. Listening to Godflesh.
9. Arguing about politics at a neighbourhood barbeque.
10. Going to art galleries.
