Actually I think it's pretty clear what's going on:

Kylo Ren is Chewbacca. At some point between the end of Return of the Jedi and the beginning of The Force Awakens Luke Skywalker shaved Chewie. This drove Chewbacca into a murderous rage which led to his becoming a Sith Lord. The guilt from this caused Luke to go into exile. Now the new guys and Han Solo have to go find Luke because he's the only one powerful to confront Kylo Renbacca, but in the end it will turn out the new guy has had the power within him all along.

Which is why we've neither seen Luke Skywalker or Chewbacca in any of the promotional materials.

I'm getting the impression of an OK movie, that people are going to love because it's not crap.

I should also clarify that I didn't mean that I thought this movie was going to be prequel bad, but that I thought people were getting more excited than was deserved. I still think the movie's going to be OK, I think everyone involved is conscious enough to make something better than the prequels, but this hype makes me think it's going to be beloved by the general movie going populace, but will probably be shit upon by all the nerds online.

I imagine he will be an improvement over Luke fucking Skywalker. I hated that fool. Mark Hammill is a garbage actor. Carrie Fisher sucked too. James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, Yoda, R2 and cp30, Chewy and Harrison Ford made the original SW decent. Every time I watch the original Star Wars I wish Vader would have lopped off Skyfuckers head rather than his hand.

Seriously though I never liked the Luke Skywalker character. I always rooted for Vader.

I always rooted for Vader.

I thought Vader was everyones favourite character.... The reality is (for me) that when I was a kid (early 80's ) I never saw any of it as acting it was all about the story, and the story was amazing....

The original trilogy has nothing on some of the truly shitful acting the the prequels. And they actually attempted to cast known actors in those...

Seems plausible to me. Vader was corrupted by the Dark Side as well, and that seems to be somewhat attributed by his "poor" training by the Jedi.

His training might not have been perfect. But from a young boy he was being groomed to be Vader by the chancellor. The chancellor clouded even the minds of the Jedi. He pulled all the strings politically to destroy the republic and the Jedi. Luke, defeated the dark side. And is the most powerful Jedi ever. He wouldn't let something like that happen. And obsessions are usually due to an absence. Being a knight of ren he has an absence of a teacher in my opinion. But what you say could still work.

Disagree. Acting wasn't bad at all. Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Samuel Jackson, Christopher Lee, Natalie Portman...all solid. The problem with the prequels was the story and that garbage actor they cast as young Vader....Hayden Whateverthefuq

Overall the level of acting in the prequels was far superior to the originals. The original had a superior story. Great acting can save the day sometimes, but you can only do so much with a garbage story.
