Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
I figured, in light of the recent announcements, that this would be a good choice for this weeks Classic Album.

10/10 Would listen to again
Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
After hearing people rave about this a few months ago I gave it a few listens, because the first time I heard it I was not impressed at all. The following listens did nothing to change my mind about it.
Maybe it's just me.
Also, is this really worthy of "classic"? Cult classic at best in my view.
4/10

Let's not get into a debate on the definition of "classic" again. For the purposes of the Classic Album of the Week, the album fits perfectly.

Fair enough. It struck me after I posted that around here this would definitely be a "classic". One million apologies.hellboy wrote:Let's not get into a debate on the definition of "classic" again. For the purposes of the Classic Album of the Week, the album fits perfectly.

There's nothing that I disliked about this album. It has a lot of the elements of other albums I love. Decent vocals, musicianship is alright, even the vibe is cool. But I guess it's the songwriting.
I've heard it before, probably when it was released, and like RP it didn't draw me in then. Or now.
Again, not a bad album - just doesn't compel me to listen like the best albums (IMO of course) often do.

Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
I can think of MAYBE two or three albums TOPS in my entire collection (approx. 750 cds, 250 lps)that I would give a bold 10/10 to.
Anyway, for the record, I have never even heard of this band. Listening now. About 25 mins in to it. Not really doing much for me TBH.....
So far....maybe a 4/10.

I joking a little when I said it was a 10/10. It's not the perfect album, but it is a damn good one. It's catchy, it's well produced and sonically a pleasure to listen to. It contains a variety of styles within the "grunge" genre they play. And I like the vocals.
It's not perfect, it has a couple of dull moments, but it'd be a 9/10 for me.

Finishing up now. This did absolutely squat for me. Can't really be arsed "reviewing" it at all. Dull and lifeless.....just not my thing. I'll stick with Death In June.

Awful cover artwork.
What the fuck is that, Speed Racers pit crew?
No comment on the music yet, though.
I've only listened to the first two songs so far so I don't want to spoil it for you fuckers.

I can certainly agree that the cover is shit.
Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
Not a "classic" album. Fucking shocker UND goes with something Tool/Nardo/APC/Puscifer related.
The album is OK. Nothing classic about it.
5 / 10

Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
Hold on, May Jay is a fan and they play one show with APC and Puscifer and that makes them "related"?
Meshuggah once played a whole tour with Tool, that makes you the biggest Tool fanboy of all.

Maynard (APC) has covered one of their songs.
Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
Uh someone missed the logic train. APC fucking covered a Failure song. UND picked the fucking album because they are playing Jimmy's B-Day. Your Meshuggah argument has absolutely zero relevance. Furthermore, I have never picked a Meshuggah album for AOTW or CAOTW.Ravenpig wrote:Hold on, May Jay is a fan and they play one show with APC and Puscifer and that makes them "related"?

Re: Classic Album Of The Week - Failure - Fantastic Planet
Ha, all I gotta do is mention Meshuggah to get you all riled up.
I didn't know APC covered a Failure song. As I said in my review I've seen people here rave about this album various times.
To pick at the May Jay connection seems unnecessary, because it is totally besides the point. But it is you after all so I'm the dumb one for even saying anything.

MOG trolling 101 - relate it to Tool and let fly! Nice one MOG - try keeping on topic next time.

Suck it. I reviewed the album. Nothing "classic" about it.hellboy wrote:MOG trolling 101 - relate it to Tool and let fly! Nice one MOG - try keeping on topic next time.
Only Hellboy would call Miles fucking Davis meh and rave about a fucking Failure album. Disgusting.
On the one positive note I have for you fucking Maynard lovers....the APC version of The Nurse Who Loved Me is INFINITELY better.

I've got soft spot for spacey stoner rock like this. Nice hooks, harmonies and atmospherics. And it reminded me of that animated flick I've always wanted to check out. 7.5
