Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
Gotta go with the underdog with Cameroon, over Mexico, but not really, and for only reasons my penis can tell you.
You got that, right?
OK
Going with Spain in the second match and
for the last match of the day
between Chile and Australia,
I will go with....
let's see...

Now that I've had a chance to track down a highlights reel (no easy task, since sbs.com.au doesn't work in NZ ), I really don't think that should've been a penalty.
If that's the level of refereeing we can expect, Ben Williams will fit right in. He's the world's worst referee, no exaggeration.

Definitely not a penalty. The third goal sealed the game in my eyes. Taking nothing away from Croatia who played a great game with no fear and for a minute there halfway through the first could have been up 2 nil.
Every World Cup has it's bad calls. It's unfortunate it had to happen on the first game but this shit happens. At the end of the day, the better team did win.
Now for tonight's games

I've got Cameroon to beat Mexico, Spain to beat The Netherlands, and Australia to beat Chile.
I won't be calling any draws. Nothing worse than a draw in the World Cup.
I'll be following the Spain game at 7:00am, but 4:00am for Mexico is a bit too early for me.

Mexico over Cameroon 2-1
Spain and Dutch will draw 2-2
Chile over Aussies 3-1
I might be wrong but overall a good night of games ahead

Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
Totally fuck.
Brasil played mediocre in the first half
Brasil played bad in the second half
Croatian player really well in the second half until that dreadful moment
Neymar should've gotten a red card, well, a lot of referees would have given it.
Then he equalizes. He was the best Brasil player though.
The penalty should have never been a penalty.
The disallowing of the Croation equalizer is debatable.
Before the third goal Rakitic was fouled.
Why play the tournament at all? Give that darn cup to Brasil already.
Today:
Mexico - Cameroon : difficult, I think a Mexican win or a draw
Spain - Netherlands : rooting for the Dutch, ofcourse.
Chili - Australia : hope Australia can pull of a stunt but Chili is the favourite.

http://time.com/2857626/how-soccers-gro ... s-america/Far more people in the United States watched the Spain-Netherlands final of the 2010 World Cup (24.3 million) on TV than watched the decisive fifth game of Major League Baseball’s World Series that year between the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants (15 million). Heck, only 4 million more people watched Game 7 of the Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals that year than the World Cup final. Remember, the match we’re talking about pitted Spain against Holland. Kicking a ball around.
Equally impressive, and more important in the long run, is the proliferation of media outlets for international soccer. NBC airs English Premier League matches, and a number of cable channels serve up games from the German, Italian, Spanish, and Mexican leagues every weekend. A generation of young gamers is hooked to FIFA’s soccer on their Xbox or Playstation. I console myself that when my kid is seemingly lost to the hypnotic powers of the video game, he is actually learning about other countries. (The other day I caught him playing Dortmund against Valencia).
It’s hard to exaggerate how much soccer’s incursion into American life threatens to erode American exceptionalism, not to mention our traditional geographic illiteracy. American kids now routinely wear the jerseys of teams in places like Barcelona and Munich, much like their counterparts in the rest of the world. Soccer offers American sports fans a sense of global, not just national, connectedness.

They don't call them 'soccer mom's' because they take their kids to stickball practice after school.
Soccer is a lot more prevalent in America than most think;
it's sort of everywhere, just not on espn (wretch!)...

Terrible officiating at this world cup so far.
Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
Nonsense. A draw is a fine result. It is part of what makes football football.ilikecheese wrote:I keep forgetting about these fucking 'draws.'The Boss wrote:Nothing worse than a draw

@Everyone - Stop bitching about the refs. Everybody always bitches about the officiating. Without replay it is incredibly difficult to get every call right. Mistakes will be made. For the most part the officials do a good job. The only real complaint I have is the lack of goal line technology. There absolutely should be replay for situations where it is not clear if the ball is completely across the line. You can put in the same system that they use in tennis.
As for people bitching about diving fucking come off it. It is called gamesmanship. If you were on that pitch, as a forward, with a chance to change the game in the box you would take a dive in a second if you thought you might be able to draw a penalty for your team. It will never go away and the refs will always have trouble with it. Again, for the most part, the refs usually get it right.

Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
goal line tech has been been implemented this world cup, they demonstrated it breifly during the brazil game yesterday.LINK
I realize its hard to ref, and get everything right. My gripe with last half was really with the linesmen, there is no way that was offside. But i realize this is soccer and you just have to play on.

I havent been watching many games prior to yesterday. How long have they been using the shaving cream like substance on the field for penalty kicks?

First time. Some leagues have been using it, but this is the first World Cup.Umadbrah? wrote:I havent been watching many games prior to yesterday. How long have they been using the shaving cream like substance on the field for penalty kicks?
And Mexico just scored Fuck Fuck Fuck
Neither team can play defense. Brazil and Croatia are going to murder both teams.

Cameroon is just wore out, Mexico deserves this win (even tho i didnt want them to). You're right tho, Brazil and Croatia will wipe the floor with both teams. Tho, their defense's weren't looking that great yesterday.
As i write that Cameroon almost scores, that would have been great lol.

heh---hard...just to tie.
The only way a tie should be ok is when it
gets too dark outside to see and Mom is calling you inside
because it's way past your bedtime.
And then you'll finish it after school the next day.
"Hey, Spain."
"Si, Netherlands?"
"Here's your ass. I put it on a platter for you."
"Oh thanks!"
